BTB: Three Cowboys who will make their first Pro Bowl in 2018

With more snaps and a clearer opportunity to make their names known, these three Cowboys could be in for career seasons in 2018.

The 2018 season will bring lots of surprises to the Dallas Cowboys. While the team has been going through a youth rebuild in the past few years, it feels right now, more than ever, that this franchise is as different as it has been in over a decade. Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Dez Bryant are no longer on this team. Even 10-year vet Orlando Scandrick is not on this roster anymore.

The Cowboys in 2018 are going to be different, vastly different. With the offseason of making necessary moves basically all but over, the Cowboys seem all set with how their training camp team will look.

Looking at the 2018 season, there is reason to be optimistic for Cowboys fans. Barring any injury, they will now have the “214” crew of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott for a full season. Dallas has re-tooled their offensive line to mirror the talent level of the 2016 unit. Their receiving group has questions and there are unproven players across the board, but they should have players that can make contributions in 2018. The defense has talent at a variety of positions and has depth to go along with it. Sean Lee and DeMarcus Lawrence will lead the way, and a young secondary will hopefully come of age.

Dallas will send a group of players to the Pro Bowl in 2018. If they stay healthy, you can pretty much book Pro Bowl seasons for players like Elliott, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, Lawrence, and Lee. However, who are the players that could make their first Pro Bowl appearance in 2018? These three Cowboys could do just that.

Would love to see those guys make it this year. Jones likely won't because of the emphasis on the big boom but he is a master at keeping the ball away from dangerous returners and putting it inside the 20. Usually has a great return stat as well although that reflects on the ST play overall.

Collins having a good camp so far. Let's see what he does thru camp.

I'm very optimistic about La'el Collins. After some expected rough spots, I thought he really settled into the role as the season progressed, and by season's end, he looked really good out there. And from what's being reported, he's picked up right where he left off last year (minus any back issues).

Given the high profile of this line and team, and the lack of a truly dominant right tackle (that I can think of), I think Collins has a decent chance of reaching a Pro Bowl level of play.

But Pro Bowl decisions ask for the best Offensive Tackles, not the best Right Tackles, don’t they? It’s a tall order to beat out all the league’s best LTs. Does that ever happen?

You're right. Typically the voting doesn't differentiate between left and right and it's usually just left tackles being voted in and just manning the right side for the fake game. Hopefully, that will change this year.

Chris Jones should have been a pro-bowl player in 2016 and 2017 IMO. Yep, hopeful for both. Smith in particular. I never expected much from Jaylon TBH. My expectations have grown a bit with the brace coming off. He should be far more fluid and natural without it.

One player who I'd really like to take big strides forward is Byron Jones. I expect it from Chidobe, Lewis and Woods if for no other reason than it's their second year in the NFL. Byron has been here 3 years. He's a great athlete, very intelligent, very balanced individual I think. For his sake and ours I hope he makes the leap

I did notice that All-Pro selections respect the sides though.

(Makes me wonder how often right tackles on teams with left-handed quarterbacks get selected as All-Pros.)

I definitely agree with your original point in that there is definitely a left tackle bias.

Don’t see any of them making it
Punters are about booming punts
The league had lots of top notched LB
And left tackles
Generally a breakout year for a non rookie has to be repeated to get a pro bowl

I like the way MLB does their all star game. Home run derby is fun to watch. The winner (American League or National) gets home field advantage in the World Series. Tough to do in football I know. The NFL should do something to make the pro-bowm game relevant IMO

If I had to put money on it, it would be either Jaylon or TE (TBD) as most likely. Whoever gets the playing time at TE is going to get tons of targets.
