They"ll convert him to OT if he doesnt show much at TE. He's the new Jamiel Showers - no real position.

He’s shown no aptitude for blocking, so I can’t see that. It’s tight end or the end of pro sports for him.

If he gets placed on the practice squad, be prepared to see him get snatched up and tear it up for another team.

Not an unlikely scenario. He probably needs a few more years of development and it wouldn't be worth keeping a roster spot for a guy who may never be able to contribute. Happens all the time with "projects." They bounce between practice squads before they develop into a NFL caliber player. That's how we got Jeremy Parnell.

Very few probably know who Wells is.......find a better example! :D
The one thing about Wells is he was the Best Blocking TE coming out of College IMO Its hard to know what kind of hands he has because his College team was a running team. IMO Wells has more upside then Rico.
I think that Rico for some reason has fallen into the dog house. It might be because as one poster indicated he didnt think he needed any improvement. After an off season Rico did nothing to try and improve his blocking skills. JMO though.

Saying Parnell "bounced between practice squad" is an exaggeration. He was only ever on the Saints practice squad, he just happened to be on it twice because the Dolphins signed him to their active roster in-between stints.

He was already on the Cowboy's active roster by year 3, serving as a backup and playing special teams, so it seems like Rico is right on track if we're using the Parnell-Model.

He's alarmingly slow and plodding. I can't imagine him ever being more than a red zone contested catch receiver. Throw it up and let him go get it like Dez used to.

Plus he's just buried here with Swaim, Jarwin and Schultz.

Sadly you speak the truth. He's slow and inexperienced, I doubt he makes the team. I think once he gets moving his speed and athleticism are good for a guy of his size. The problem is he's like an 18 wheeler and it takes a while for him to get moving lol.

Its also a bit ridiculous how hes anointed himself before doing a damn thing. Is he humble enough to put in the extra work he needs?

I dont know, dont remember last ps, so will see him if he plays this ps.
It all depends on what JG thinks and who he wants as TE's.

For all the criticism Rico is getting here and it is warranted, I bet he will be the most productive preseason TE.

Garrett will cut him because "all he does is catch touchdowns"
lol cant have that !
Question may be is he rkg enough >??

Rico can’t run. He lumbers. He doesn’t run routes correctly, rounded cuts off. He was already hefty for the position and then he put on 20 lbs. He has trouble mastering his assignments and he can’t technically get his blocking skills together. It’s 10 to 1 he won’t make the team
Everything you say may be true but I can't help but think of two things that no one seems to mention. 1)When he catches the ball, no one wants to tackle him. 2)When he is on coverage teams, no one wants to block him.

Those two little tidbits might offset some of his flaws when it comes to putting together a roster.

Reminds me of an episode of Underdog called "Just in Case" where the villain kept some side kick little monster just in case it was needed. I don't think Cowboys have room for a player to be used just in case a certain scenario comes about. It would be nice to have that luxury but Rico is a player great in certain limited situations . Other teams may have that luxury especially if they are struggling and they have nothing to lose.

At least William Perry was a lineman.

I still think Rico is the 3rd TE behind Jarwin and Schultz, with Swaim cut or traded. He has plenty of time to prove himself in preseason games and Linehan loves to have guys like him to exploit matchups.
Why would you think they will cut or trade Swaim? I think those Swain, Jarwin & Schultz are completely safe barring an injury or something completely unexpected like Gronk getting cut & coming to play for DaBoys on a vet minimum salary.
