Dez wasn't coached.. That was a big problem. He was the one being hard on himself. Everyone else babied him. He needed someone to be hard on him. He didn't get it from the staff so he was way too hard on himself and it manifested into a loss of focus on the field.


He's only 29.. There is no way he has physically declined that much. He had an awful year last year and he still had 70 catches for 850ish yards and 6 TD's. With a horrible scheme and a QB that is not an artist with the football.

I was less tolerant of such comments on the other site. Now I can skip over such posts at superluminal velocities.

It's hard to buy into your school of thought based on how Dez reacted to a coach just saying "hey we need to play well, these guys are good". Dez' fragile ego couldn't even take that level of criticism.

Dez' stats have been artificially inflated for some time because we forced him the ball. I agree that the coaches enabled him, but I am presuming it was because that was about all they could do to deal with him.

A hard nosed coach would have run him totally off.

Sounded like he was tired of his coach hyping up the other team. It wasn't a great reaction but if that wasn't for you then neither is the NFL because stuff like that is everyday stuff.

Or, Gallup could just be another good #2 receiver, and the Cowboys will need an upgrade in the draft a year from now. I like the Gallup pick in the 3rd round, but I also liked (and still like) the 3rd round selection of Terrance Williams.

My point all offseason is that we KNOW what the ceilings are for what the Cowboys have in the other receivers:

#2 wide receivers - Hurns, Williams
#3 wide receivers - Beasley, Austin
#4 wide receivers - Thompson, Brown
#5 wide receiver/special teams player - Lenoir

The ONLY guys on the roster that are unknown are the two rookies - Gallup and Wilson. We simply don't know. Hopefully, one of them becomes a #1 receiver. We'll find out soon.

When Cole Beasley is telling people they are just now learning route concepts and how to properly run routes I think what I've said isn't so far off.

You guys are way too petty. So what he acted like a little baby when the coach pointed out how good Denver was. I'd bet it wasn't just the coach hyping up Denver. It's probably gone on for awhile and Dez was just in one of those moods where he didn't want to hear about how great the competition was and said what about us.

Regardless we have overanalyzed that nothing "situation."

No doubt. But there must be balance. Number of rushes to passes must be close to the same.

Since we seem poised to be going with a timeshare at WR and TE, I'm mildly nervous about us costing ourselves early in the year before the dust settles and the pecking order clarifies itself.

A team facing us in, say, November might find that we've got things dialed in much better by then.

We can say it's harder to face us earlier in the year when teams don't yet know what to expect. But it's also possible a team lucks out precisely because they caught us when we were still devoting more snaps to guys who will have played their way to the bottom of the pecking order a few weeks later. I could envision us suffering a loss early on where we kept forcing the ball to a receiver who, by the end of the year, has proven to be our worst receiver -- and we'll all be saying, "Hey, isn't it a shame we cost ourselves a game or two before we realized that bum belonged on the bench?"

If it does look different do we keep changing throughout the season and be a week to week team or will we just create tendencies and fall into the same trap we always do.

I think we all know the answer to that. "Hey look this works, lets keep doing it until they stop it." They stop it. "Well it worked before, it has to work again."

Preseason was painful. I know they didn't want to expose any improvements or changes on offense. This coming game has me uncomfortable in what we're going to see. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised but have been let down too many times to get my hopes up. We've had incredible talent and it's been misused constantly with disappointing results.

Petty? You just got done suggesting Coaches be harder on him. He get's coached and all he does is whine. There's a reason he's not on a roster. His job wasn't to do anything but play football. His moods and meltdowns are not an excuse.
