Dez’s stuff was never a big deal.

The media painted him as something he wasn’t.

I’m sure he was late to a meeting or 2 but the media wanted to make Dez out like he was TO and that was just never the case.

I agree that after 8 years he should have it figured out better but when a guy can make plays like Dez could the Cowboys should’ve done better figuring it out themselves and when I watched all or nothing it was nothing but them babying Dez, babying vets, and yelling at the scout team.

Dez was worth whatever headache he caused and looking at this current crop of WRs we have he’d still be worth it.

The great thing about football is that you've got to pick your poison. Whomever we play is gonna have to stop the run. Period, end of sentence. They'll have to load the box to do it even with Frederick out for a time. Once the box is loaded up, the short passing game is opened up. Recall how we beat Seattle a few years ago in their place and I believe you'll see the blueprint.

You score 17 or less, and you'll be luck to be 4-12. Good teams score on good defenses.

Historically that is not true. Good teams have historically had a difficult time scoring on good defenses. If we can control the run with the the tackles we have, WE will have a very good D and good teams will have a difficult time scoring against us. If Linehan can diversify the O a little, and we can average 24 points a game, WE will win a lot of games if the D tackles come through vs the run. I am so looking forward to having a dominate D. It will happen if the D tackles come through for us.

From the pieces I've read all throughout camp and pre-season, I think you'll see more receivers in motion before snap (which I'm a big fan of), the mentioned RPOs, limited pick plays, bunched receiver sets, a reinvigorated screen game, and more downfield shots. Since Witten has moved on, I think we may even see some 10 personnel, which is intriguing with our diversified WR group.

We'll likely see less 12 personnel with the TE group we have, at least early in the season. I think they'll spread it out a bit more than we're use to seeing--make the reads a tad easier and clear the box for Elliot.

I'd love to see bunch routes and rub routes. Worse talent has gotten open through those techniques that our guys.

People have to understand the opposing defenses aren't scared of our run game. All they have to do is avoid quick long scores. Make us go 10-12 plays, knowing most drives will either die by penalty, turnover, or field goal attempt.

The run game is great for closing out 4th quarters with a nice lead, but that ain't gonna happen much.

Hope our defense is as good as hyped and we win a lot of 12-9 games

I disagree. If we run the ball like our 2016 team, teams we will be afraid of our run game. Also, if we finish’s drives and average 26-28 points a game( even if we just average 23-24 points a game) like we did in 2016 teams will be really afraid of us, especially if the D is as good as I think it can be. If the D tackles come through and control the run and WE ourselves are able to run the ball like 2016, WE are going to scare a lot of teams and win a lot of games. Teams hate it, when another team goes on a 7-10 minute drive and score a TD, especially when that team has a dominate D, that gets the ball right back to the O. That could be us this year with run stuffing D tackles!!!!! Go Cowboys!!!! I’m cautiously optimistic this year, even with Linehan and Garrett!!!!

Year after year after year after year. I can go on for 15 years. NE’s receivers consistently get open even when they just have average talent. Coaches and game planning matter. NE is the master at scheming their receivers open. Maybe our coaches will steal some schemes from NE to get our receivers open. Garrett’s philosophy of, just go beat your man, doesn’t work as well as scheming guys open, especially when teams know what your trying to do to beat them. A big reason for Dez and Beasley’s struggles last year where predictable patterns. We didn’t make defenses think. Hopefully our passing O will be less predictable this year. Go Cowboys!!!!

If anything i expect the Panthers to roll out a new offense with Norv Turner taking over OC.

We still have Linehan and Garrett and their Vanilla Schemes. I highly doubt they run much different stuff than they have before.

I think we will miss Witten. I would like to see us convert more third down plays this year. For some reason, even with Witten, we almost always pass for a couple of yards short on third down. Dak gets the completion but JG is clapping while the punting team is running on.

This weekend has an eerie, onerous feel to it as a Cowboys fan.

But it's also wrapped in a shroud of uncertainty for Carolina as well.

Carollina can play some defense, and last year's Cowboys offense would likely struggle to score more than 20 points against it. The Panthers can play you straight up, sit in zones, and fly to the short throws. That was Kryptonite for the Cowboy offense last season.

However, this isn't last year's Cowboys offense. Dallas showed almost nothing in preseason, vanilla-ing teams to death through a dreadfully boring 16 quarters of yuck. Basic, basic, basic. Not a hint of nuance or misdirection all August long.

Entirely by design. Carolina is left entirely to guess.

Gone are Witten and Dez. Here are Austin, Hurns, Gallup, Thompson, Olawale, 17 new tight ends, and an entirely new coaching staff under Linehan, along with a subtle hint from Mr. Jones to "make things more comfortable for Dak" by implementing more of what he did in college.

What's next is pure speculation. Including ours. The first couple of teams on the schedule get to find out first what's not on film yet.

Will it look wildly different? No, it'll still be Zeke and the freight-train running game carrying the water, but expect a lot of new looks, especially on 3rd downs. Austin will be all over the place. Look for a lot of underneath "picks" and quick outs disguised in all sorts of packages, along with some deep shots down the sideline when they can get single coverage with late safety help.

Will it work? Sure, I think it'll help quite a bit. Will it score more points? I have my doubts. Will it work against good defenses several games from now when it's all on film? That's where my darkest doubts lie.

Granted, it often takes a couple of weeks for NFL teams to settle in and find their rhythm, especially with so few reps in the preseason. So only so much can be expected or gleaned from the first game of the season.

But I believe the new-look Cowboys offense is hoping to steal some games early on the strength of their current anonymity. A good start to the season is vital with multiple tough games looming.

The Cowboys can weather the storm better with it's new-found defense. It's up to the offense to find a new stride, too, and as quickly as possible.

Carolina is a good test, and a great chance to take a big offensive step in the right direction.

So what your saying is the Cowboys will play rope a dope right up until they get punched in the mouth!

I hope we blitz if their injured starters on the O-line is unable to play. Give Cam no time to set his feet.
