Must Win Game

this is last season all over again "if we win we re still in the playoffs"

No, win or lose, its still over. We arent going to do a miracle run. We ve proven again we cant beat beatable teams. This team is still not streamlined to run on all cyclinders. we are right back to, if defense plays good, offense cant. If offense plays good, defense cant.

Its like some of you need the "punch in the face" test. how many punches will you allow someone to give you in teh face before you say "no more of this crap"?

Please provide a list of all these OC with this championship success without a great QB?

What has Norv Turner done since without Aikman and that offense. He’s been a journeyman OC and fired twice as HC . And Norv is considered by some one of the greatest OC in Cowboy history.

It’s always about the talent. Great coaching helps. But can’t turn turds into diamonds. You can’t coach a 5.0 guy to run a 4.3. And like Troy basically said. You can’t teach god given ability.
And look at the runs he called for Newton in that game. He was using his best strength, accuracy is not it. I think Linehan needs to take note of that unless he's got marching orders not to risk the QB1. Norv looks at CAR and knows if we don't run, we are hurting ourselves.

Sunday night a must win game for both teams.
0-2 will be hard to overcome in this division.

I’d agree. We should use Daks legs more but I suspect he has his marching orders.

I really liked that option play with Cam and several run first calls.

But we seem determined to make Dak a pocket QB. How can we be certain who’s calling the shots. I have my suspicions.

Ouch. I place a very nice amount of credence in this. I was already questioning after Sunday's debacle whether JG lost the team. If not, it's close.

And it's not just the losing, it's the losing in a very disorganized clusterfudge sort of way.

It's the *continuing* clusterfudge from last year. If it were just one game, we'd shrug. It's a continuing pattern which they failed to break with an entire offseason.

After failing to break the pattern after a full offseason, why would anyone expect them to do it in a week between games?

After all the off season talk Garrett did about “fixing the offense”, “new wrinkles”, using Tavon Austin more, etc. And on top of that we had 4 months to prepare for Sunday’s game and THAT was what they rolled out on offense. I place most of the blame at the robotic feet of the 8th year head coach.

I do recall the Giants not only going 0-2 but giving up 84 points in the two losses, unheard of for a Giants team.

And ncn, I do not put a fork in them because they might be 0-2 but how the team is put together and that includes coaching. We went 0-2 in 93 but I knew that was a much better team and they could right that ship and when I give the eyeball test to some teams, that belies their record.

And I might be making too much of this but I've not seen this much negative about a coaching staff after one game and that's from not only the media but ex players.

And while IBC, Idiot Boy Child, (yep, back to that) might be pissed at Aikman and take his shots, when I listened to the game, that was not coming from an analyst but an ex player wanting to see his team do better. That OMG that Aikman let slip, that was all ex player unable to control his disappointment.

The other element with this is with the NFC as strong as it is, no margin for error. The problem is I would not say CAR is a better team, that's a game they should have won. I do not believer the Giants are a better team either, better offense, but not better team. Poorly coached teams find ways to lose.

Your statement at the end "a win and it all goes away.... for a week" speaks to the angst among fans on here. You couldn't write a more accurate statement. We both know there has been a huge dump JG movement on here for awhile. It's overwhelmingly negative, some deserved. I've never been on another teams fan site so I have nothing to compare ours too but you are bang on with that statement. A win and the angst continues for the next game. We're either spoiled rotten children or children who haven't been fed yet and desperate for mommys teat. I do know this, 7 teams went into the season with new HC's, they are all 0-1 today. No doubt some will be 0-2. I also know 16 teams started 0-2 and went to the playoffs. Do you think the fans of those teams are or were calling for coaches heads (Both OC and HC) or is that a symptom of being a Cowboy fan, spoiled rotten or starving?

I know this much, JG/SL/JJ/DP wil not destroy my love of the game or the team. The end lol

Which is the absolute worst thing to do to him, as pocket presence is his biggest weakness.
His legs got him on the Heisman list as a junior and then he tried to be a pocket QB in his senior season as a lot of QB's do because of the draft positioning and the pro style D's like AL, AU and LSU wanted him in the pocket as well as they knew his weakness.

They need to accept that he's better as a dual threat and part of the run game and the increased chances for injury are there but what else can they do? He is not what they want him to be and has never been, why did they pass twice on him? Every GM and scouting department in the NFL looked at him and not one had him higher than the 4th round, why is that?

Hard to imagine the season could be over after only two games, but it is looking that way. Dak showing evidence of the glitch. And the coaching seems as poor as ever. Beasley under used. The Lb's who we thought were going to be a team strength seem unable to tackle. We gave up on the running game very quickly. Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning.

I place it on whoever thought this recieving Corp would work . And not negotiating with Dez and trying to convince Witten to stay another year.

And ultimately on who thought Dak would be able to elevate lesser talent.

If that’s Garrett. I’d burn him at the stake.

As usual I think Garrett is left with trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

And our OL woes aren’t helping. If we can run the ball this offense is dead in the water regardless who our OC or HC is.

It would have been worse Sunday if not for a defense which is obviously better with added talent. Unfortunately our offensive talent level is less than last year.

I do think part of that is entitlement and the feeling we deserve more but this is like Groundhog Day and it's wearing some of the fandom down.

What many do not want to accept and they know it as well as I do, this is the most unusual sports team on the planet, they do not have to win. The ratings and revenue do not depend on it and until they do, Booger is comfortable with the set up. And Garrett will continue to be the Stepford Head Coach.

I don't think many know just how happy Booger is with the arrangement, why would he want to make a change? To please whom? He could care less about the fans and would like a ring for his ego but for him, life is good, why upset the applecart?

But cern, we know if they win this game, it will be red sky at night and that's OK, fans want a winner and sure as hell don't want to get down on the team to start the season. For us, this isn't something new but the continuation of something we've been force fed for a while.

They’re scared because we don’t have a backup. But this offense isn’t going anywhere as is and it’s going to be tough selling Dak as the future with another disappointing season so might as well put it all out there.

And the fact is if they treat him as a dual threat QB and do risk him, he knows he's not the long term guy. There aren't a lot of jobs for a Bobby Douglass kind of QB in today's NFL.

Do you see a ? behind that headline? That's because I am not asking, I am stating a fact that our second game of the season determines the season, if lost, and not for just the obvious reasons.

The loser is 0-2 in a very hot NFC and it is unlikely the wild card comes out of the East. PHL did what good teams do, didn't play well but won the game so the division is going to be tough.

But this loss is different in how it sets up this next game because there's more criticism after this loss than any I can recall with the Saints giving up 48 to TB and that should be the story.

Do you really believe any of these coaches or players when they say they ignore the media? That's an easy way to not respond but human beings cannot ignore what other human beings are saying about them, that's just human being nature. And these aren't just human beings but ex players and coaches and they know the game.

Before this first game, we had ?'s about this team. The media had ?'s about this team. But most of all, the players had ?'s about this team and more than anyone except the coaches, they see the plays made and not made in practice. They know good coaching and they know when they have the edge and when they do not.

This game is a must win for the simple reason the players have doubts and that creates a chasm in their confidence and didn't we see that in 15 and 17? What they have talked about behind closed doors, confidence in the coaching staff, mainly the O staff, is now being openly discussed by the media and the owner's son and HC have already become defensive after one game.

I saw something that I never thought I'd see as a Cowboys fan, I saw my team quit on their HC and get him fired. I told myself I would never see that again but now I am not so sure.

Folks, this was just one loss, a tough loss in a tough place to open the season but the effect of this is far beyond just that. I do believe if they lose this game Sunday, they will lose this team because it is just that fragile.

And the problem is the two players that could hold it together, Dak and Sean, haven't played well and leading on the field beats leading in the locker room.

Anyway, there you have it, CC's patented first Must Win thread of the year only this is not to just get something going, I really believe that. Just as I believe if they do win and get some O going, this all goes away...….for a week.

Must win is a term fans and media enjoy. The 2nd game of the season has never been a must win.

And the fact is if they treat him as a dual threat QB and do risk him, he knows he's not the long term guy. There aren't a lot of jobs for a Bobby Douglass kind of QB in today's NFL.
It all goes back to the core issues of how our football operations are ran. We just can’t be sure if the priorities are always what’s best for Cowboys Football.
