Roughing the Passer - Decline of the Pass Rushing DE/LB

These crazy new roughing the passers rules are designed to protect the NFL's most valuable asset the QB. But in the process... if they stick with this crazy rule, its gonna downgrade the premium paid to Pass Rushers (Hint Hint... save Owners some big money). Chicago just paid a fortune for Mack, and the Cowboys are about to break the bank on DeMarcus Lawrence, but SHOULD they? These new rules are ludacris, but if they restrict DLmens ability to sack the QB the position will be downgraded.

As an owner ...would you pay a pass rusher $150mil a year to merely PRESSURE the QB. Gonna be interesting to see how the new rules affect the number of sacks this year compare to years past.

It is getting ridiculous is all I know. I know this is redundant saying but they might as well hang flags on the QB.

Until it cost you the game...Ask Clay Matthew...Packers had the game winning sack and the QB thru the interception but Matthew was called for roughing the passer (Super Clean hit) and the Viking went down to score the tieing TD

What's the alternative - pull up and whiff on a wide open hit like Jaylon did? They're going to drop the QB and take their chances.

They slung Dak to the ground and I was surprised they didn’t throw a flag for that.

Cam's been saying it for a while: mobile QBs tend to not get the same kind of protection that your Bradys and Rodgers tend to.

Watching the Pit/Bucs game....McCoy hit Roethlisberger square in the chest not high, not low, no part of the helmet, didnt pick him up and slam him to the ground, doesn't land on the QB and still gets flagged.....its like touch football

The new rule changes beyond stupid, after the bad call on Crawford Jaylon Smith came up the middle on the blitz step to one side and tried to push Russell down to avoid a flag, that plan didn't work too well

William Hayes of the Dolphins tore his ACL sacking the QB.

Adam Gase essentially blames the new NFL rule saying when Hayes tried to avoid putting body weight on the QB his leg caught in the turf in an awkward manner and caused the torn ACL.

Other players have now pointed this out as well.
