Honestly guys, I think its time for a total rebuild. And it really doesn't take that much time. Our cap situation is ideal.
New coaching staff, new QB, new culture. Keep Zeke, keep the young guys on defense, keep the O-line, figure out where we are with Smith, and Frederick. We have some solid pieces.
Flush the entire WR group other than Gallup.

The argument for it is... what have we been doing over the past 10-20 years? The 49ers reset their franchise after going to a SB in 2012.
They have a great young coaching staff, a good QB albeit very expensive but they have a ton of cap space.
I don't want to win 6-8 games a year, we no longer have a known commodity at QB like we had in Romo since 2006/2007. The one sure fire way to compete in the league is to have a competent QB, its no the only way but a very good qb covers a lot of warts.
Bottom out this franchise, we have cleared out the cap, and here comes the really hard part.... wait for it.. .....
Jerry needs to hire competent football guys...

would be a sound idea. biggest problem.....the Jones have no clue how to build a championship team. the last 20 years tell us that. if after that long, they haven't figured it out....they never will. very sad...but very true.

Oh the sadder part of this whole commentary is that they don't know how to build a championship team but have the hubris to never seek help or guidance to do it.

what is your definition of a "total rebuild"

I think you would be absolutely shocked to see how this same team would perform with a new head coach and a new QB.

Only real rebuild we need is Coaching, from top to bottom.

There's enough talent sprinkled on this team to not have to go into a total rebuild.

Start with a new head coach, see what he thinks of the roster and go from there.

No team every admits they are going through a total rebuild.
We are honestly in the process of doing it after the Romo era. But it would be complete if got rid of the entire coaching staff and get a new QB.
We are over halfway there. Our Cap has been cleared out, most of the dead money is gone.

It doesn't matter what kind of talent we have on this team as long as the head coach Remains the Same

No we don’t need a total rebuild.

The defense is young and talented. And just needs a few more pieces.

The OL core is still fine. Frederick will be fine by next year.

They need to rebuild the passing game. QB/WR/TE.

Unfortunately, QB is the hardest position to find.

They have a great young coaching staff, a good QB albeit very expensive but they have a ton of cap space.

The 49ers will have a $27 mill per year unproven, 28 year old QB coming off a ACL next year and bad defense. Not sure that's a great example.

Well, 2019 is the year if you wanted a major, potentially quick, retool/rebuild.

New HC/staff. **** load of cap space and probably a high draft pick.
But if we are still rocking Garrett, then I'm not expecting much more than talk.

Imagine the boards if it became public that Jones is going to make a switch - we would ALL lose our lunch in anticipation

Absolute truth HB! Until the Jones cartel can admit they don’t know how to build a championship team without 1. A strong, respected HC and 2. An independent “football guy” (aka GM) making personnel decisions apart from “Mr. Fantasy Football GM” Jerry, we are all hoping year after year that the “Titanic” won’t sink.

Will McClay is very good at what he does. He has improved the talent on this team. Make him the GM. Let him hire a head coach and then hold both the GM and HC accountable to build a team competing for a championship within areasonable period of time. (Not 22 years)

Currently, we do not have a full time GM. Ours goes to a Beyoncé concert on a Tuesday night after an opening week loss at Carolina or a college football game on that Saturday the same week. Or a boxing match on a Friday. Name one other NFL GM who shows this public laziness and a lack of commitment to make this team better? Not even the Bungles GM Mike Brown is that brazen.

Folks, hiring a new coach won’t fix this fundamental flaw in this organization.

I just wish this extremely accurate analysis and ideal dream scenario could be achieved under current ownership as well.
But I think your last sentence summation kinda brought home the real truth of it all though.
Regardless, nice post man.

Nah, have to eat to lose your lunch, I'd be so excited I couldn't eat...
