My bad Byron

So him and DLaw are both FA's in 2019. Should be a fun off-season.

He is probably just more comfortable at corner and is playing with confidence.

He was not that effective at corner earlier in his career.

And let's all take a moment to appreciate how sometimes players "blossom" in a contract year.
This is a "no win" for players. A contract year comes up usually when most players are hitting what their peak is. Some fall, some continue to go up after they get paid. Its kind of lazy to just assume he's playing well because its a contract year. I mean, he might be, but we shouldn't assume that. Also, a large number of fans are always saying "I need to see him do it before we pay him that kind of contract," Then when he plays to the level necessary to justify the upcoming contract it turns into "we shouldn't pay anyone that kind of money, lets trade him for draft picks!" We are saying the same thing with Demarcus Lawrence, as if all the fans on this board don't remember what the years looked like when we didn't have a number 1 corner or a consistent dominating pass rusher.

He has looked good...real good so far.

It is just disappointing we have not gotten much out of him. I thought he would be a real good safety, but he was pretty much a replacement level safety. Dallas preferred in some situations Kevon Frazier to him. Even before that, he really had no impact at Safety imo.

Now he looks real good at corner. Although if he is a pro bowl type player, do you give him top 5 CB money to resign him? That is going to be a lot of $.

Agree

I didn’t think he’d be any good either. I thought it was a last ditch effort to save face. The hiring of Richard and his preference for big corners had to be a positive for Byron.

I wonder why Richards has Jones on the left side and not the right.

Byron has been good for us in man on man from day one. Nothing should shock you about his play at corner

Did anybody see his job on the qb sneak by Stafford for 3 yards -he was a bystander

He played well as a slot corner.

And people joke about blossoming in a contract year. Well it happens qnlot because it sometimes takes players...get this. .. 3 to 4 years to get there. Coincidentally right when rookie contracts end. But please go on believing the vast majority of players play poorly on purpose only to then play well when it matters....because....erm...something.

This is true.

It’s not even a contract year for Byron. He is under contract next season.

The great thing about moving Byron to
Corner is that it is really taking advantage of his athleticism.

Byron Jones is an INCREDIBLE athlete. And I capitalized incredible because he is legit one of the best pure athletes in the league. And that isn’t hyperbole. His height, length, speed, explosiveness combination is one of the best in the entire league.

Playing safety slowed him down. It was forcing him to be in a position that required more thinking and instincts.

As a corner Byron can just use his god given amazing athleticism and play with good technique and he is excelling at that.

And for those that are interested in the draft. From now on look for CBs built like Byron. No more small CBs.

Too bad we can't bump old threads. I said over and over this offseason that Byron Jones would be the most improved player on the team and that he was the prototype Kris Richard CB.

Don't you mean Chris Richards?

:lmao:
