Chemistry is overrated

I'm no mathematician (or chemist), but I think that's the exact same thing

It's not actually. Could think of it as a "Chicken and the Egg" but its not. He is saying Chemistry leads to Winning. I am saying Winning leads to Chemistry. My point is that locker rooms are filled with all types of characters. If you win, everyone is happy and you have Chemistry. A losing streak always leads to discussions of the team lacking Chemistry.

Shaq and Kobe during the Lakers' early 2000's run is all you need as a proof point for me...it's overrated.

but they split up early Like Jimmy and jerry and others that could have extended the runs..chemistry plays a role in getting a locker room on the same page and moving all in one direction..it might be a little overrated but its important..if it wasn't why were this site call for Dez TO and others to be cut because it upset the flow in the locker room.. Momentum is more important and if we can get a few more wins strung together we could take off lie 2016..

I stand by what I posted, and the other poster pointed out the title winning lakers that had two stars that didn’t like each other as evidence. If anything, a sport like basketball with so few players, chemistry should be more important......... I’m thinking having a hated Michael Jordan on the team, or Ann arrogant Aaron Rodgers trumps any so called “chemistry.”

Have to agree with this sentiment - I was talking to a buddy the other day about what a disaster the 2015 season was and he made an interesting comment. Basically said that he thinks Greg Hardy would still be in the league had Romo never gone down, because the guy was a monster on the field for us to start the season and the wheels only started to come off once the winning fell away and he was fighting with coaches, etc. I don't necessarily agree that Hardy would still be in the league, but it's an interesting example of how winning might cure all evils - had we kept the offensive momentum from the prior year and Hardy kept playing like the top DE he had the potential to be, we might have been voting him into the pro bowl that year! Winning = "Chemistry"

Have to disagree here about Hardy. Hardy's wasted opportunity had nothing to do with the team losing. Here is what he said was the cause of his collapse: “Having the Dallas Cowboys was like having the biggest bully in the world have your back," Hardy said to Klemko. "It said, Greg’s okay, give him a chance, he’s a Cowboy. That launched me into a party phase. I got away from reality.”

The dude just wanted to party.

It sounds like you never played team sports at a high level. Does chemistry trump talent? NO. Does chemistry affect how players play in team sports? YES.

And there is no sport more about team than football.

I agree that chemistry is overrated, but just to a point to where there isn’t disfunction. There doesn’t have to be a bunch of buddy buddy friends with a team slogan and all that garbage. As long as everyone shows up with the purpose of winning football games.

AS I posted, Talent trumps chemistry but chemistry is still important in team sports. There have been many teams that had more talent that got beat by less talented teams due to lack of chemistry. Go look up the "dream teams" that got beat by lesser talented team.

That always happens in sports(lesser teams beating more talented teams.). I know I remember reading about the amazing chemistry buster Douglas had with his manager, cut man and the rest of his corner. They even talked about him and the ring announcer having great chemistry when he knocked out mike Tyson.

I think chemistry is more about familiarity, it may not translate to wins but on the field that chemistry will give you match up victories within a game. O-line chemistry and chemistry between a quarterback and wide receiver doesn't ensure you will win but that doesn't make it non-existent.

I agree with you. As I read this thread, I feel as if Chemistry is being confused with actually liking somebody. They are two different things. You don't have to like a guy but if you know a guy, what he can and can't do, what he is likely to do in any given situation and believe that that guy will be there to pick up his assignment, that's Chemistry. Has nothing to do with if you would like to see him date your Sister.

Chemistry is working as a team... Meshing together... True chemistry isn't about what one individual player can do. It's about working together as a team... Simple as that.. You get these Lebron's , or the TO's etc (who only want to shine for themselves) it isn't going to work...

Nope, I just read someone’s talking about Dez ruining chemistry........ garbage, so I figured I start a discussion on chemistry of teams. Like I said, chemistry comes from winning.....it’s rare for winning teams to not be involved in a love fest.

You should really make it point to just come out and own your pro Dez stance from the beginning and lead with that. Don't beat around the bush and just own...
