I cut the cord many years ago, so I don't actually see commercials anymore.

You don't see them when watching live sporting events?

I don't watch the NFL anymore. I watch the Dallas Stars and I have NHL Center Ice for streaming those games. The commercials are pretty much stripped out because I'm in the NY Tri-state area, and not in the D/FW area where the commercials would be more relevant.

Very interesting, now I know why I don't see you out in gen pop. Did you sign up here when you did still watch, make some connections and decided to stay when you gave up the NFL?

I find this really interesting that you are a member here, and not just any member to me, yet you do not watch the games or follow the team any longer. You are a large part of this site and one of the members, other than the ones that came over on the same ship, that was a motivation for me to stay involved here. Not blowing smoke up your skirt, Sam, you are an important part of the lure of this site and what helps get it beyond just a team.

I feel your pain, Coach. If I start on the frayed nerves from loud eating, I won't be able to talk about the crap fest commercials aspire to be. I actively use my remote on those freaking Chevy commercials. A few simplistic notes and the guy goes "Oh wait, did I tell you that Chevy... a weak cold front is moving across the mid west stalling out a hotter'n hell trough over your neck of the woods". Yes, the Weather Channel is a go to. I flip back and catch that turkey necked lawyer. So, it's back to the Weather Channel. If they get a good story going, I miss out on a show I was meaning to watch until they go to commercial. I flip back and go "oh yeah". I don't have any technology after my TiVo crapped out. I refuse to rent from the cable company or pay TiVo for stuff I was used to getting free during VCR and DVD times.

Lately I dislike the one where the guy is leading a choir singing heaven is a place on earth.
That's that stupid Jamie from the Progressive commercials. Attention marketing! No one loves their job that much! Just think of him as a break from Flo and her playing herself as family members.

Thank you Coach. I appreciate it.

Here is my story and I'm sticking to it! (this will be a bit lengthy, but ignore it if you don't care to read)

This goes way back before CBZ existed I believe. I've always been a fan of the Stars, Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks. Around 2000 NBA playoffs, the Lakers and the Kings were in the WCF and I am not a fan of either team. Well, the Kings were going to end up beating the Lakers, but the NBA decided that wasn't going to be good for ratings as they wanted Kobe and Shaq in the championship. So the refs basically took over the game and forced the Kings to loose. While disliked both teams, to see outright blatant cheating by the league to influence the outcome of the series, I was really taken aback. That sowed a seed of distaste for the NBA as a whole. Though, I still deeply loved the Mavericks so I kept watching, but only Maverick games for the most part.

Obviously, Mark Cuban had a big mouth and was fighting with the league. (around this time, I was on the Mavericks board called MavTalk) As the fighting with the league went on and the league were clearly retaliating against the Mavericks themselves, and not just Mark Cuban. This was all really culminating the 2006 NBA playoffs. (look at the date I joined CBZ) I was pretty much at my breaking point with how corrupt the NBA front office was and I started to completely sever ties with the NBA and just completely stopped watching anything to do with the NBA or the Mavericks. (big loss for me when they finally won the championship is 2011, but I was already done with the NBA so that was that.

Anyhow, I joined CBZ in 2006 as I needed a new forum to call home on the Internet since I had completely shut off the NBA and therefore the Mavs and the MavTalk forum. I was a huge Cowboys fan and the Rangers nor the Dallas Stars had a great forum at the time. (I actually ran my own Texas Rangers forum for a while, but nobody got time for that!! So I shut it down)

Everything was fine and dandy, but all the whining by *those Cowboys fans* would really grate on me. I don't have a high tolerance for ignorant. Especially ones that like to get on a soapbox and really show how stupid they are. That basically started pushing me out of the Fan Forum and into the Off-Topic zone where the discussions were always more light-hearted and far less hatefilled. I would still click the "New Posts" button, but mainly only read the news of the post and skipped the idiot clashing or whining of the fans in the responses. (granted, there have been some INCREDIBLE posters on this board, but even those great people would being drown out by the sea of garbage posters.)

So when the NFL started acting the fool just like the NBA by not being fair about how they handled issues with the league. (this started way back, not something just within the last couple of years) I started to become disenchanted with the NFL also. Initially, I just quit watching any NFL games except Cowboys games. Over time as it continued, I even started skipping some Cowboys games. I believe the first year I started doing this, I maybe watched eight games. Then it became four games, then a year past and I think I only watched one game. Last year, I finally decided I was completely done with the NFL and didn't watch any of the games at all.

I could have went looking for another forum, but most of my other interests forums outside of sports are pretty much completely focused on that interest only and as you guys know. I like to relax and just enjoy myself sometimes. Those times are when I'm here, when I want to discuss my hobby interests or other things. I go to those forums.

I did leave this forum for a what I believe was well over a year or maybe two I can't recall, but that was due to a spat I had with some of the moderation here a while back, but those issues were resolved.

It was funny because so many new people here had shown up on CBZ and then I came back and was running my mouth off like I always do and I remember getting PMs from these people asking me who I thought I was running my mouth like that and how did I just show up and already had like 30k posts rofl. They accused me of "hacking CBZ" and threaten to tell the mods. Of course you guys know me. I just turned the volume up on them.

Gradually some of those people came to accept me and we became friendly. Others put me on ignore. :D

Even though I'm here now, I still occasionally get PMs from new members asking me why I'm attacking and hate them. (you know who you are! rofl) I explain to them, I'm just having fun and not to take me too seriously. Most of them come to accept me and we have a great time sparing in OTZ.

So the secret is out! Now you know the true history of the Grand Poobah of the OTZ!

PS, did anyone use to troll MavTalk back in the day? If so, can you guess who I was? :D

My kids would tell you that, "That is the first sign of Senility Old Man."

Which is why I didn't have kids! rofl. Actually, I've raised two kids, and now I have a nine year old. She has already started calling me old and not cool. Though, if I weren't really that cool, then why does she like to hang out with me and have fun?!?? yeah. I'm still the coolest old man on the planet! (well, second to you ABQ!)

Post Jackers' Guild...........When we saw a thread getting overly serious, or if we just felt like it, we'd hijack the thread and add some levity to it. We've got quite a membership, including some overseas chapters. You don't have to join, we've already decided you're a member, regardless of whether or not you want to be.

I've good with joining the guild. The few times you would find me posting something in the fan zone. It was usually a drive by trolling a thread that was in high tension.
