Sean who?

What about figuring out a way to kick Wilson to the bench and playing all three in base?

Exactly what I was thinking. But maybe someone more x’s and o’s can educate us a bit about how moving his position could stunt his growth?

When we go nickel, can we have Smith go down rush the passer and keep LVE and Lee in?

I've been saying that since we drafted LVE.

All 3 in the base. Put LVE at MLB. Put Jaylon on the edge.

In "nickel", bring a corner and drop a S, then let Jaylon play like an in the box SS, rush or cover a TE or RB in man. Lee and LVE play the traditional LB roles.

A player who can flex roles like that on defense is huge.

This is almost the exact same debate we had in 2016 with Dak and Romo. Looking back on that, we left our best QB on the bench which was a huge mistake.

Sean Lee is probably a top 5 LB in the league when healthy. You play your best players, you don't leave them on the bench. Don't make the same mistake twice.

I wouldn’t say they do t miss him - a healthy Lee to go with LVE and Smith would be awesome. But you’re right that it doesn’t hurt having him out like it used to.

Although I agree somewhat, even before his injury, he was playing the Lee standard we've seen over the years.

At this rate, I think LVE is going to be more special than Lee was in his prime.

He could be . Athletic wise he is better and his small college tape showed him around the ball and forcing turnovers .
The fact that he seems like a vet most plays / his ability to read the play has me excited about his ceiling . That and he has great form on his tackles.

LVE will be very good next year after a year of experience.

playing nickle lets them go with a rotation and keep more dbs on the field

I credit Leighton Vander Esch.

Jaylon deserves his share of credit too. Jaylon is playing super physical defense. LVE should be a true thumper in a year or two as well. Beast in the making.

Lee is still the best linebacker on the team when he's healthy*

I'm not sure that's true anymore if you are being objective. Right now he's the third best linebacker on this team physically.

Most of us knew the LB corp would be a strength of the team this year, even if (when) Lee got hurt again. This due to the drafting of probably the best LB in the 2018 draft and the third year jump of Jaylon Smith.
