NFL: Why Amari Cooper Was Traded to Cowboys?

Good conversation. Don't like the cost, BUT, at least we will know a lot more about Dak, Garrett, Linehan - ......
It was either this or a coaching change i guess.

a 1st rounder really hurts though - too much for a guy that is being questioned also at this time. I need to do more research on Cooper, what is his speed, what are his routes like, is he smart, does he have off-field headaches, etc...? Talent was there, you don't hit 2 pro-bowls your 1st 2 years, without talent, but we all have seen that talent only takes you so far. HOpefully a fresh start is good for all - now Dak has to take chances, do quick reads and THROW the ball mid-range and deep - pull the trigger and see how it goes.....

I don’t have a problem with the player we got. My problem is we could have gotten a similar player in next years draft on a rookie contract. This team is going nowhere this year. With a #1 pick we had options in the draft next year. Now we have another WR that we invested our top pick on that Dak has no chemistry with and that Dak will fail to get the ball to.

The reasoning here is the Cowboys were probably going to go WR in the first round anyway. There will be nobody as good as Cooper in free agency. So, instead of gambling on a rookie, Dallas basically "drafts" a 24 year old Amari Cooper today knowing he's been good enough to go to two Pro Bowls.

Let's see how it works out.

That’s bs. A receiver coming in the middle of the season with zero chemistry is no test. And until they fix the line it won’t matter anyway.

I understand what the front office was thinking. But we could have gotten one of the top WR’s on a rookie deal and saved a lot of cap space. I’d be more excited about it if we had a QB who excelled in the passing game. But Dak is a long ways away.

Bright side is it’s better than paying Watkins 16m

If this fails and we get stuck in the purgatory of 6-10, 7-9, 8-8 type season and we miss out on a top 15 draft pick with a now obvious QB change needed we will miss out on prime real estate where Deshaun Watson, Mahomes were drafted... as well as where the eagles moved up to grab Wentz.

This is about as BOOM or BUST as their is for me... because if this doesn't take us over the top its obvious that a rebuild on offense will be needed and we will be behind the ball missing a key 1st round pick

Bingo. Watkins has basically done nothing for three teams already and the Cowboys lucked out by not paying him all that money. Give me Cooper over Watkins.

I agree actually. Let's see what JG and Dak have now, No excuses. Cooper, Gallup, Beasley works. I like the move because top rated WR's take at least two years before they are effective and we would have spent a first on a WR anyway.

Why wait? Cooper is proven, needs his head in the game.

Dak is the QB in 2019. This trade confirms it. If he continues to trend downward even with a true number one to throw to the Cowboys will be drafting a QB in 2020.

I still believe in Dak, but the haters had better brace themselves for one more season.

Because the QB can’t throw downfield and the coach lets defenses take whoever they want out of the game.

Teams aren’t winning championships because of their WRs either.

It’s all about QB and coaching and we have mediocrity at best at those positions.

I hope Cooper takes Hurns snaps. Hurns should be cut. Guy is a JAG.
Cooper, Gallup and Beas in the slot. Lets do it. Still need a TE worth a crap. Right now none of our TE's scare anyone. Shultz who we got in the 4th round looks like a rookie FA TE out there.

Only thing that cements this for me is....

That we have a shot at Tua from Alabama if Dak falters this and next year....

Agree player is fine but cost seems high.

WR drafted in 1st round over past few years has been very poor. White, Parker, Williams......OMG....huge bust potential. But 1st round pick could have been a premier LT, QB, TE........ options.

Cliff Notes: Because Jerry knee jerked again. Third coming of Galloway and RW2?

God help us...
