I thought the bye would be a good time to post answers to frequently asked questions regarding the Cowboys. They are organized in no particular order.
Q1. Who owns the Dallas Cowboys?
A1. The Dallas Ft. Worth community who has supported the team with their tax dollars, ticket sales, and merchandise sales going all the way back to 1960 when the team played in the Cotton Bowl. The good people of Arlington paid, and continue to pay for a huge chunk of the new stajum.
Q2. Seriously, who owns the Dallas Cowboys?
A2. Jerry Wayne "Booger" Jones bought the team in 1989 from Bum "That Lousy Bum" Bright.
Q3. Did the Cowboys really have 20 consecutive winning seasons under legendary, hall of fame head coach Tom Landry?
A3. Yes, from 1966-1985 the Cowboys under Tom Landry has winning seasons.
Q4. Has Jerry ever made the football decisions to build a Super Bowl champion?
A4. No. Jimmy Johnson had the final say in all football decisions when he was the head coach and to ensure it, those exact terms were written into his contract. As a result, Johnson built a core team that won three championships in four years.
Q5. Why is 1997 significant in Cowboys history?
A5. It represents the point in team history where the championship talent that Jimmy Johnson assembled finally began to age, become impacted by free agency, and watered down by questionable front office moves. It also represents the beginning of Jerry taking complete control of the team without the benefit of Jimmy Johnson's eye for talent and building a champion.
Q6. If Jerry had a hand (other than hiring Johnson) in co-building those three Super Bowl championship teams in the late 90s, why hasn't he been able to build or co-build another one?
A6. Jerry has only had 22 seasons to learn on the job as the Cowboys "til death do us part" GM and a series of unfortunate ball bounces, questionable calls, and subpar front office decisions have resulted in zero divisional playoff wins in just the past 22 seasons.
Q7. Has there ever been a Cowboys head coach who was not allowed to hire his own staff?
A7. Yes, in fact, there have been two: Wade Phillips and Jason "the Clapper" Garrett. These are also the first head coaches in NFL history who were not given the power to hire their own staff.
Q8. Since Jerry has never been the architect (football architect) of a Super Bowl champion, why is he in the NFL Hall of Fame?
A8. He made the hall of fame for making the other 31 NFL owners extremely rich by brokering innovative licensing deals and even more lucrative TV contracts. His influence on making the owners billions is legendary.
Q9. Are any other NFL organizations using the Jones model of owner/GM and if so, have those organizations been successful in the past 22 seasons?
A9. Yes, the Cincinnati Bungals have embraced the Jones model of owner/GM but not the organizational nepotism. Unfortunately for the Bungals, they have two less Wild Card wins than the Cowboys and zero divisional playoff wins the past 22 seasons.

A10. Yes, Jones made NFL history in several drafts by selecting only special teams players in one draft while selecting a "cold weather specialist" kicker in another. He has also typically kept the 2nd round pick to scratch his "wildcat" gambling itch which has produced future hall of famers Gavin Escobar, Randy Gregory, Bruce Carter, Anthony Fasano, Mike Jenkins and James Marten.
Q11. What is the normal lifespan of a salary-cap era GM?
A11. Three to five years max. In the salary-cap era, teams that make a change at GM can jump from 3-13 to 12-4 in a season or two. Luckily for Eagles, Commanders, and Giants fans, the Cowboys employ a "til death do us part" GM philosophy where the GM is not accountable to anyone and has a lifetime appointment.
Q12. Is it true that Jerry Jones is the only NFL GM that doesn't watch game film/video?
A12. Correct. Jones has a busy schedule that prevents him from the drudgery of watching NFL game film. Jones has many other duties and hobbies that occupy most of his time. Among those tasks are selecting the latest hot dog vendor for the 2019 season, brokering business deals to bring concerts, sporting events, and fights to the stajum, and performing all the duties normally attributed to the head coach except game time clock management.
Q13. What duties does current head coach Jason Garrett have?
A13. Among coach Garrett's many responsibilities include game-time clock management, on the job clapping and cussing, press conferences, toastmaster classes to perfect his robotic, emotionless tones, and carrying out all order from the Jones family (Jerry, Stephen, Spaulding).
Q14. Doesn't an owner owe the fans of a sports franchise that has existed since 1960, to put the best GM, front office, and coaches to ensure the best chance to win without interference from non-football experts?
