Forget ET This Offseason

He'll be 30 next season and wants to be paid like the top safety in the league. I say instead we attempt to target Landon Collins since he'll be a UFA next offseason (assuming the Giants don't tag him). He plays SS but it's not like we don't need help there as well. And I feel like his contract demands won't be nearly as high as ET's (could be wrong)...but he's only 24 now and is a stud.

Personally, I don't think we're a safety away and I'd rather keep drafting and resign our own guys....but if we're going to insist upon using free agency, then I'd like to target this guy.

Final Thought: I realize there is a group on people on this board who believe this guy is no good, but those people are dumb...he's one of the best SS in the league, if not the best.

No way the giants just let him walk.

If so then i am all for bringing him here. But i dont see it happening.
They weren't exactly in a good cap position, I'm not sure how much all of these trades help them though. But if they do let him hit FA, I would at least try to ensure another East team doesn't snatch him up.

Overthecap has the Giants cap space for 2019 at 27mil.

They can retain Collins and I can't see them letting him leave for free.
https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-giants

Cutting Eli saves them 17mil.
Vernon being cut saves 11mil

etc.
Well that pretty much ices that line of thinking...welp, my only hope is the fact that they have Gettleman and that dude is a crappy GM so not giving up on Collins.

I'm going to say that if Landon hits FA, which I doubt since Giants have to keep *some* cornerstone guys, he would get a FAR larger contract than ET coming off an injury. This league doesn't pay age anymore.

Ok so if you believe what he believes...that he is one of the best safetys in the league, then why do you not think his contract demands would reflect that belief? Hes going to be asking for a contract that puts him in the top 5 highest paid safetys in the league, if not the highest! Hes good, but not worth the 80m contract that hes going to want!

Perhaps but a FS is more highly valued than an SS, which Collins definitely is. But if we're going to throw a lot of money at a safety, I'd rather it be a 25 year old.

Is 80M really the going rate for safeties now or are you just throwing a number out there?

I doubt anyone will be offering a 30yo ET coming off a major injury a big contract.

I think it works out well for us with ET's injury. Teams will still be interested, but may not be willing to give him a lot of guarantees.
So, if they want him, definitely could nab him at a "fairer" price than pre-injury

I don't like the Cooper trade, but it's much better that ANY ET trade.

That is a good point about Cooper's value, the Cowboys laughed at the Seahawks demand for a #1 but paid it for Cooper. And there are press articles that multiple teams had already offered a #2, which means teams either would have added more picks to their offer or blinked to give up the #1.

Don't expect Dallas to sign either because they don't pay big money to outside free agents.

Thomas only remains a possibility because his asking price may be lower coming off his injury. But I doubt that will be the case.

IMO they would if its an elite talent at a position need. I think the Greg Hardy signing is proof of that.

Pardon and no offense intended..

But you is wrong Silver and Blue Breath.

We will sign him for his last contract and he will be a Cowboy next year.

He is affordable right now and next year.

Witten's money will be coming off the books as will Dez's.

This team needs to win now while we have Zeke and DAK and the OL.

So there is some urgency to them to win.

Jerrah will pull the trigger on this as soon as Thomas passes a physical.

Bet on it.

Good post though.

I was going to post a similar thread the other day when the AMARI trade went down. Like what does this mean about Thomas coming here now..etc. But I figured people are tired of talking about Thomas now. So no..glad you did.

This place is going to have quite a meltdown when ET sells his services to the highest bidder, whether or not that bidder is Dallas.

Childhood fantasies aren't going to pay for his kids' college tuition and his retirement. Follow the money.
