Watching the NFL channel Last night one of the analysis made a very good observation about the Rams/Chiefs game. He indicated that both teams would not be in the Super Bowl. Even though both have great offenses, their defenses were pretty bad. Without a great defense those offenses would not carry them far into the playoffs. I agree with him 100%, and then he said that the only team in the NFL right now is the Saints who has a very good offense but it is their defense that will carry them into the Super Bowl.

Possible but difficult. The problem with being dependent on one department exclusively is that you lose if it has an off day. Personally, i would rather have a team that is comfortably above average in all three phases than one that is the very best in 1 phase and below average in the other two.

In another tread a TV analysis made a very telling evaluation of the Bears and the Cowboys. He said that the Bears had a great defense and a great coach. The QB has not a Goff, Wentz, Brees, for was another DAK. Then he indicated why the NFCE was the weak sister in the playoffs, it was Dak in the Cowboys. The Cowboys were just above average with Dak in the offense.

Sure if both teams D sucks.
If you talking about the Rams and Chiefs then you are right. However, The defense has kept us in the game all year without much help from the the offense. Soooo, the point of this is that the rest of the league sees us as a weak contender for a playoff spot, with a one and out with no hope of doing any damage. The reason is DAK!

In the last 10 years the worst defense to win a Superbowl was the 2011 Packers. They were ranked #19 in points scored per game. The teams since 2011...

#12 - Ravens
#1 - Seattle
#10 - Pats
#4 - Den
#1 - Pats
#4 - Phili

You tell me.

Riiight, not factoring in the piss poor play selection/calling, the fact he has Kellen stinking Moore as a "QB coach" not adding the fact the o-line was plain ugly up until 2 weeks ago, not adding in the fact he had NO deep threat option, shall I continue?

The Saints defense is made better by the fact that their offense scores so fast that the other teams offense becomes one dimensional. When they have off days and the offense doesn’t click, the likes of the Bucs and Browns give them a run for their money.

IMO, these high scoring offenses will fizzle when the weather turns cold.

The scariest teams in the NFL right now are the Bears and Chargers. They are built for the December run and January weather.

You will never win one with Garrett, so eliminate that issue first and go from there.

Only team I can really think of that didnt have a Defense that could at least on occasion get a stop was that 2008? Colts team?

One of those team that Peyton Manning just willed to a super bowl with marvin harrison, Reggie wayne, and Dallas Clark

Only defenders who they had was Freeny who would get destroyed by the run game and a super tiny Safety Bob Sanders(i think) who was injured all the time and was that season as well up until the Super Bowl

You mean those teams that are 10-1 and 9-2, respectively? I expect them both to be in the SB.

And the Giants teams from 2007 and 2011 got hot around the end of the season and didn't allow a single opponent to score more than 20 points on them in the playoffs.

All you need to do is get in the playoffs and win three games. So why not? If the Rams (or Saints) and Chiefs meet in the Super Bowl, one of them will win it in a shoot out. Maybe its the team with a slightly better defense. Maybe its the team that makes one fewer mistakes. Who knows?

I still think the Colts D was ranked fairly highly that year, they were similar to the 2010 Packers - they forced a lot of turnovers, if I am remembering correctly.

The team with the great defense often forces the offense to commit more mistakes.

I'd be highly surprised to see Chiefs or Rams get to the big dance, and if they do, they will probably end up like the 2013 Broncos. I still think a team we're not expecting yet will emerge around the end of the season, the same way the Giants did in 2007 and 2011.
