Since he’s Cowboys royalty and people care about his opinion, here’s what he had to say about Dak on November 13th.

Oh, and this is the same guy who said the Cowboys organization needs a complete overhaul... so no, he’s not “just being nice.”

This is how Troy felt, like it or not.

“I've said it many, many times on this show, I'm a big Dak Prescott fan," Aikman said. "I was really happy for him to see him come out and respond the way he did. I think he has been under a lot of pressure, I think he put a lot of pressure on himself. He acknowledged last week that he needed to do a better job and he did. I think he's still a really young player that came into this league having to learn a lot of different things."

"He did that rather quickly, surprisingly quickly, in his rookie season. I think he's going to continue to improve. I think the great thing about a guy like him, if you invest that kind of money in him, you know what you're going to get. There are some players I think you worry a little bit about once you get the big pay day. But with Dak I know that he'll be even more committed to being great and helping this team win a championship. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pay him, but I think the longer you can hold that off just to be certain of your evaluations, I don't see anything wrong with that either."

Sounds pretty accurate to me. I’m just sayin.....

That's the most important part imo. There are lots of players out there who become totally different from what they were after getting paid. I agree with Troy with this evaluation in that Dak has a good personality and he showed the leadership many can't and could not. Moreover, he is a guy that is aware of his mistakes and flaws. That helps improve for the better.

As for the last statement of Troy, still have another year with him and this young decent team. That will tell a lot.

Dak will be signed before next season

Totally agree about Dak’s drive to get better. He will become a more consistently accurate passer as time goes on.

People say Dak’s “not a pocket passer” but he’s actually pretty accurate in the pocket... I think the biggest improvement he could make is by increasing his accuracy while throwing ON THE RUN. Tony was incredibly accurate when he scrambled. When he’d break the pocket, you knew a big play was coming. Man, I hope Dak gets to that level.

In terms of overall accuracy, we forget about Romo’s accuracy issues because he was such a stud by the time he retired. But it took Tony some time before he reached such a high level. He worked his butt off to improve in 1 key area every offseason, and Dak will need to keep up that same approach.

I’m guessing Dak will never have Romo’s insanely great pocket presence because Romo was just a special talent. But Tony didn’t have Dak’s running ability. Tony also got injured very often while Dak has been durable so far.

I agree with Troy, Dak is never going to be pocket passer e.g. Goff, Brees, how much of a contract and belief do you buy into for a running QB with below average throwing accuracy in the passing era of the NFL? How much does that change when you no longer have the leading rusher in the NFL or top ten offensive line? This is not a simple decision, long term issues need to be brought in on the contract. I personally will support whichever decision is made as the fan in me is wired to support the boys no matter what the FO does these days. This dilemma should highlight what a lottery win we had when Tony Romo suddenly blossomed into a franchise talent from the scrap pile of free agents. Maybe we can hit the lottery twice that is a lot of faith and cowboy koolaid.

I fail to see the ringing endorsement here. All Troy is saying is that Dak had a good work ethic and is always going to try and get better.........even if he gets paid.

I agree with that part
I don’t think paying Dak will change Dak as a person
I think most would agree Dak has good leadership qualities, is a good person who works hard and is still young
He was done no favors with the receivers we started with
I think the issue with Dak is two fold to me
One is very fixable the other I think could be fixed with scheme
One, his footwork creates issues many times
That’s fixable
He’s slow to make reads. I think some of that is his attempt to be safe with the ball
I think a better OC can create a better scheme that makes those reads easier
But I also agree with Troy that I want to see more before I pay him

I like everything about Dak except for his ability to throw the football.

If they keep Dak there is no way you can keep him in this exact scheme. They promised scheme changes this offseason and gave us a few wrinkles and that about it.

Dallas has to find a guy that can scheme and get the dinosaur passing game out of here.

I haven't made up my mind on Dak yet - will try to withhold judgment until the end of this season. That will provide the 3-year proverbial body of work that everyone talks about. Seems right to me.

I don't understand two factors in this saga:
  1. Why would Jerry say he wants to extend Dak no matter what at the end of this season? Is this a motivational tactic, or do they see something behind the scenes that we don't?
  2. Regardless of your views, given this kid's attitude and leadership, why would some posters continually pound the negatives on Dak in almost every thread? I understand a good argument for or against a given topic, but some of you guys seem to be openly rooting for this kid to fail (at least it seems that way). To quote the great philosopher Terrellus Owenventus, "That's our quarterback."
Don't misunderstand - I'm not saying it's wrong to criticize, or suggesting we blindly accept whatever these knuckleheads roll out on the field, but as inconsistent as the play has been at the QB position, I, for one, am hoping that this kid Dak turns out to be the long-term solution (especially since it looks like that's where we're headed).

Translation: good guy, but unsure of his talents.

Dak definitely has his strengths and weaknesses. I feel like his biggest enemy right now is his inconsistencies. He has flashed some great playing abilities and then, like the flip of a switch, some not so great playing decisions. The kid is athletic, big and strong, and seems to have a great work ethic. Those are definitely key ingredients. I'm still out on jury though. I don't hate the kid and don't want to see him run out of town, but, he does need to continue improving. Plus, you have to give him credit for enduring the pressure. It has to be incredibly tough to come out and show that you can be the guy in the driver's seat of the greatest franchise on the face of the planet.
