Question for the Dak Detractors

Maybe for a few, but the idea that all those who aren't sold on Dak are that way because they are bitter Romo got benched is some of the dumbest stuff uttered on this board.

And that's impressive.
You want more? I can give you guys more, just like y'all give it (anti-Dak hatred) 24 hours every single day. It's sickening.

give me a guy who can squat 600 pounds

I love when I'm asked a plan now when my plan was never to acquire the stiff.

Release him after the season. Target Bridgewater or even Fitzpatrick and look towards the draft. You will be better off in the long run.

This is why when you're picking at 4 with a franchise QB prospect number 1 on your board and the 1st and 2nd picks are up for trade you go up and get the guy. You don't watch rivals do it while you draft a RB.

I don't think it is possible to move on from Dak and compete for a championship in the same year without signing a high caliber starter who has become available for strange reasons. Peyton Manning is a recent example. I don't see a QB of that caliber becoming available next year and Teddy Bridgewater is not of that caliber. Maybe Joe Flacco (he won Superbowls and will likely be available) but I don't think he has enough left.

That means Dallas would have to draft a QB who would become better than what Dak's ceiling is. Drafting a QB pushes a Superbowl run back two or three seasons at least and with the draft picks Dallas would have to use to move up for a QB there wouldn't be much left to support that QB.
Flacco? I would imagine you're kidding. Flacco has sucked supremely since winning a super bowl. He's been worse than Eli.

Everyone say it with me: Dak is not playing out his contract.

The sooner everyone accepts this the better off we will all be.

Fitz is like 80

The only thing that makes this unrealistic is that some of those QBs listed in the second column may stay in college another year.

Fitz is like 80

My guess is Risen's plan isn't to have Fitz be the QB for the next 5-7 years. My guess is he wants Fitz to hold the position and then they pour draft resources into finding the next franchise guy.

As much as you want to hate it, it's not illogical.

I don't want Flacco. I'm only trying to think of starting QB's who might actually be available. I think having to drop to Flacco sort of makes my point that there aren't going to be any worth getting.

Fitzpatrick is a better passer than Prescott by a large margin.

I don't get the Bridgewater love

He was average before the devasting injury and hasn't shown a thing since

People pining for him are wishcasting at best.....just a name and not a good one

An average starting QB who then went on to light up the preseason and is still only 26 years old.

It's not often that a 26 year old possible franchise QB becomes available in free agency.

Therein lies the problem. What option is there at this point? Not much, at least that is clear at the moment.

I do NOT want to replace Dak with some knucklehead that lacks his poise and posture. There really is much to like about him as a consistently good dude pulling on the right end of the rope.

Teddy Bridgewater intrigues me a bit. Next year's draft doesn't promise much, and the first-rounder is already traded away. Supposed to be a bad draft for QBs and WRs, which is why Amari Cooper made sense.

My biggest fear is that Dallas locks itself into a massive contract with Dak, whose limitations are very apparent. What if this run game declines with age and mileage as it likely will? Dak is not a quarterback you can hitch your wagon to and ask him to throw you to the playoffs like Romo often could.

The only way you can truly contend with Dak is with a team like Baltimore or Tampa had in the 90s. And I'm not sure that level of defense is possible anymore with the rules of today.

The best approach is to get Dak signed to a contract with lots of "outs" in it, then keep drafting QBs until you either hit on one or Dak turns into something well beyond what he is. Then be ready to pounce on a Garrapolo or Cousins if all the other parts are in place.

I want Lincoln Riley before they do anything, to be honest.

I want to see Dak with a new coaching staff before making a final judgement on him

The intention is for this not to be another typical Dak thread. This is for the contingent fans that are ready to move on from Prescott as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of debating Dak’s merits (or lack thereof) again, let’s operate under the supposition that we’re moving on, as that is the cry from so many.

So, the question is how do you do so and who is the target. Obviously the two options that exist are free agency and the draft.

2019 Free agents QBs: ................ 2019 probable Draft QBs:

Tyrod Taylor ........................ Justin Herbert, Oregon.
Josh McCown ........................ Drew Lock, Missouri.
Teddy Bridgewater ........................ Will Grier, West Virginia.
Ryan Fitzpatrick ........................ Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State.
Robert Griffin III ........................ Ryan Finley, NC State.
Derek Anderson ........................ Clayton Thorson, Northwestern.
Geno Smith ........................ Jarrett Stidham, Auburn.
Brock Osweiler ........................ Tyree Jackson, Buffalo.
Matt Barkley
Tom Savage
Taylor Heinicke
Brett Hundley
Trevor Siemian

Obviously some of the Draft picks will be out of reach without our #1 pick. Additionally, you can pretty much guarantee you’re not going to win a championship with a rookie. It’s an investment that takes time.

On the FA front, there may be a few QBs that are available with a trade. Possible Carr, maybe Winston.

So what’s the plan ladies & gentlemen?

Fair question.

I think we should one of the following two things:

1) Let Dak play out his rookie contract. He'll likely be bent out of shape about that, or;

2) Sign him to an incentive laden contract with performance bonuses that allow him to make money but also provide the Cowboys an "out" early in the contract that's not financially damaging.

This would allow the franchise to wait an additional year for a stronger crop of QBs to come out as well as allow them to regain a 1st round chip (2020).

It's always funny to me that people just immediately go to the "hate" criticism when posters aren't fawning over a player.

Why can't it be simply be that Dak is a middling QB with a limited ceiling?

All due respect Sydla. There are a few here who do seem to hate Dak.

I wouldn’t say that for most posters. Certainly not you. But there are a few.

As a Dak detractor here is what I would do.

1) No extension for Dak. He plays 2019 under his current deal.
2) I draft someone in the 2nd or 3rd round - Finley, maybe a Grier (if they fall as both might get overvalued and end up in Rd 1). The kid from Duke is another raw kid that might be there in the 3rd round.
3) I investigate what it could cost for Bridgewater. No other FA makes sense.
4) I bring in a legit OC that can work with a QB like Dak. Linehan and Moore get crap canned.

I am basically carpet bombing the QB position this offseason, if I can.
Very close to what i was thinking. only reservation is item 2. with our limited draft resources, can we spend our first or second pick on the position unless you really think they have a chance of being starter. Or is it better to just try FA & current roster for next year with a jackpot or nothing attitude in 2019? If someone works out & you win next year, great. If you stink, do whatever it takes to get a top QB in 2020 draft. The downside to this is that team is largely built to win now. So by time a 2020 QB pans out the rest of the team is gone.
