Kind of on the fence about old Dakota. I see him have games where he looks like a really good NFL qb. Then he has clunkers that make the backups look like Romo in waiting. The addition of a #1 receiver has help tremendously. I'd love to see a change at OC and maybe QB coach before they shell out a chunk of cash on the guy. IMO, Dak is best when the threat of him running is there. When the option is utilized 5 to 6 times a game to keep the defense honest. He is not a drop back pocket passer. Never will be. Seems like they were doing that to the guy early in the season. For what reason I don't know. If defenses have to consider covering Cooper, stopping Zeke and accounting for the option play, that's a lot to consider.

The recent rash of QB FA signings does cause some concern too. The Keenum, Cousins, Garoppolo deals make me pee a little when considering what numbers the cowboys may drop to keep Dak. I hope whoever is in charge of the voice of reason in the front office makes their point when it comes to signing him. No need to break the bank. A reasonable offer should keep the guy in Arlington. What that number is, I don't know. But if the right team comes snooping around throwing out bigger numbers could be trouble.

Play out the last year of the deal. A lot can happen in a year. Especially with the addition of Cooper.

I think 25 million over 4-5 years is fair. Ill be honest, I think he is definitely someone you can feel as secure as you can about... As a backup.
