Since there's a good chance that Dak doesnt play the whole game this Sunday I wanted to share his passing stats over his last 16 starts. To be honest, I'm not really sure what to make of them. They're similar to the level of production we got from QBs we started in 2015 but with fewer INTs.

Contrast these numbers to Romo's final 16 starts. I realize that Dak runs more etc, but these are essentially the same run heavy first offenses but with different signal callers.

Could mean Linehan is trying to force his Tony playbook upon Dak no matter what Jerry says about it being Dak friendly.

Apparently the Chapters of Tony friendly and Dak friendly are duplicates. :muttley:

I like seeing comparisons at times. And thanks for showing this without having it be an agenda type post.
Just showing stats.

I see double the amount of touchdowns from Romo, and I'd bet more red zone success.

But this is comparing apples to oranges. Different running back, wide receivers, different tight end, and a different defense.

Romo was playing the best ball of his career towards the end.
Could have been MVP that season

Did have an elite Oline, receivers, and RB which helped but he was playing fantastic. Too bad injuries got to him right when he was heating up.

Imagine if we gave Dak an elite Oline, RB, and receivers and 13 seasons before calling for his head.

I'm surprised the total passing yardage is as close as it is.

Dak's legs do make up for the lack of passing TDs to a certain degree.

Idk, I just have such a hard time getting excited about a QB who plays brain dead half of the time. He does win a lot, but I can't help but wonder how GREAT this team would be if we had a competent, PURE passer - someone who can navigate the pocket, process coverages, and deliver an consistently accurate ball.

Oh well, I guess. Go Cowboys!

If you give Romo the additional attempts, it would be about another 400 yards, so really, not that close.

And remember, his numbers are slightly skewed by the end of 2015 when he was playing injured.

As stated earlier, this is an apples and oranges comparison. Romo was 36-37 over this time frame while Dak was 24-25. And the personnel on the teams they played for are completely different. The Romo led 2014 team was completely different than the 2018 team.

The bottom line for me is that I’m not impressed by individual stats if they do not translate into team wins. Passing yardage is one of the most overrated stats in football. Many times, yards are being racked up by QBs on teams that are behind on the scoreboard. Romo was an excellent QB, especially toward the end of his career. He has learned how to play the position within the context of the team he had.

We get it- Dak is not as talented as Romo. But Danny White wasn’t as good as Roger Staubach. That doesn’t mean you can’t win with Dak.

Romo had Dez and Witten.
Dak yet is to have a red zone TD maker.
Well he does, in Zeke, but the doesn't help his passing.

Romo playing hurt (or left hurt during the game) in a few of those last 16.

Anyway, I really don't like comparing the players anymore....it's just such old news.

The numbers tell you what’s evident to most. Romo was 100x more efficient and accomplished passer. He threw for more yards on less attempts, nearly twice the TDs, and at a higher completion percentage.

Think of how much more effective Zeke would be with a QB somewhere just between the delta of Romo and Dak? Teams would have to respect the passing game which would open up the box. Not to mention coupled with this defense. This team would likely be somewhere around 13-14 wins.

The Cowboys were 12-4 in 2014.

I really enjoyed our offense in 2014

It’s called very low ceiling. 13 years from now Dak isn’t gonna be much probably worse because he won’t be a running threat

if anyone doesnt think Romo was by far a better traditional type passing QB then Dak right now , they are in complete denial and holding Romos Playoff record against him..

The argument by Dak supporters is yes Romo had great career and the last 5 years of him playing when not hurt was his best football.. they will say lets see if Dak can grow and get close to that.. at this point there really isn't a comparison the way Romo finished vs Daks numbers as far as QB stats go, not just W-Ls those are team things..People say Romo had hollow stats but QB as all positions go you use stats to gauge their actual play, Romo owns all the Cowboys passing records, not just yards Td, TD-INt ratio and other pertinent postion ranking..so as QB stats go no way to fairly compare them , YET..UDFA QB who rose to own DC records..the story itself is great one..

Exactly. 3 seasons in and many continue to compare him to a dozen season vet
