With this Defense, Anything is Possible

Regardless of what happens in the irrelevant Giants game, and regardless of all the talk about Dak and the offense not producing, we have exactly the kind of team that can go on a run in the playoffs and win.

Say what you want about Dak and the passing game, we have Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott, the lead's leading rusher and now Tayvon Austin, who has yet to play in the same offense as Cooper. Gallup is showing promise as a rookie.

Most importantly, Rod Marinelli has this defense playing like they want to win. And the defensive side of the ball finally has the talent and depth to help the team get wins.

It's not the kind of team we're accustomed to seeing, but bring on the disrespect and doubters.

These players love that. We are poised to turn it on just at the right time and win.

It's going to be an exciting, and surprising, playoff season for some of you.

I agree with ya

the offense is different, but I don't dis what this O has accomplished with
- no Frederick ... Smith and Martin part time
- 9 new targets (and threw to all of them every game in the first half of the season)

still the issue is can this O score TDs?
the answer is yes
but will they?

between the 20s this is an awesome O - but horrid in the red, fix just that and they re as good as any
TEs are rarely targeted in the RD, finally a fade to Gallup (duh) ... just roll Dak out ... attack don't trick
just common sense and they'll get it done
IMO momentum is on their side

it would not surprise me if they mash any team in the playoffs
but I have no idea what Scott will do - if Smith and Marin hold up, it may not matter

Our offense is too bad.

This defense is on the verge of becoming elite, but they are not there yet. I'm thinking next season but hoping they get it together in these playoffs. It can happen. But as poorly as this offense is playing we're going to need this D to play close to 2000 Ravens type D to get to the SB.

The defense is being overrated. It's the 9th best unit in football by DVOA. So certainly a strength of the team....but the 85 bears they are not.

The Chiefs are number one. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Sometimes you just have to look beyond the numbers. This defense is as talented as any in the league

Chicago is number 1. The chiefs are 27th.

Share the holiday egg nog.

It is not quite as good as advertised. No team might want to play Dallas at ATT...but on the road, I don't think any of the playoff seeds are trembling. Dallas has been less than stellar on the road, with a win against the Eagles as their only win against a team with a winning record. Their defensive passer rating over the last three games averages (100.1). For the year, it is currently (96.4) slightly worse than 2017 (94.6). They will need 3 turnovers by the defense on sunday to match 2017 (21). Third down conversion percentage is 41.9% allowed, versus 42.8% in 2017. As I have said all year...the defense is solid, even excellent at times, but still falls short of being called elite.

That said, the lone metric that indicates improvement is the Footballoutsiders' team efficiency ratings (defense), where Dallas finished 25th (5.8%) in 2017 vs. their current ranking of 9th (-4.7%), So they are playing better on a play-by-play basis vs. 2017, BUT they are nowhere near Chicago, which is currently ranked 1 (-25.4%). The only two teams in the playoffs that will have worse defenses than Dallas are Seattle (16th) and Los Angeles (14th)...only one of which will be a home game. They are both playing better on offense than Dallas (ranked 26th on offense).

we'll see.
I don't think they will be one and done.
we'll find out.

perfect response. as i kept saying for a few games, some fans are going to be happy and some have to wake up to reality.

I honestly thought NO would beat us, oh well, didnt happen and i didnt want to keep saying "well the cowboys will lose eventually" They did lose to the Colts and i hate how they lost, but im not mad they lost. If they go one and done in the playoffs i will be mad because Garrett did the same mistake.

The defense is good but it’s not elite and we don’t force enough turnovers. If we put everything on our defense to win games we’re not going to get far in the playoffs. Our offense has to pick it up. Most of our games are tight and they come down to the fourth quarter. We can’t put anyone away because we don’t score enough.

That's why the defense is better than the stats lead on.

They performed that way in spite of the offense under-producing.

The offense move the ball and time of possession was good. They have just had redzone issues.

And the Cowboys didn't score much so teams weren't game planning to score lots of points. They didn't have to.

im sure they're only going 3/4 speed but good lord its gonna be a blood bath at our expense if something doesn't magically change

Redzone issues look a little better against the Giants.

I think the answer is taking Beasley out in the red zone and letting the taller guys get it done.

Put in a fresh Rod Smith....

They have an awesome crew.

And . . . Dak is looking confident.

I hope you mean some other defense, cause THIS defense I'm watching today is pathetic....144 yes to a sl9w lumbering *** th, and no pressure of any kind on eli...pass coverage is garbage they gave up 30 fuggn unanswered points against the vagiants, a 5 and 10 team....ROFL, this defense couldn't carry a 40 lb child. Just disgusting

Zeke Elliott makes a world of difference.

They've been passing it, the majority of plays.

It's to be expected.
