It’s the time of year when head coaches get fired, and popular assistants get in position to get HC positions. Several current and former Cowboys assistants may come into play.

First of all, current Cowboys assistant Kris Richard has been mentioned in several publications as a strong contender for a HC position. Most of us would love to see him stay as DC if Marinelli retires but Richard may have a HC gig instead. May be really hard to keep him.

If Richard ends up leaving, would newly fired Jets HC Todd Bowles (and former Cowboys assistant) be interested in coming back here as DC? Bowles was once a very respected DC but did not have success as a HC in NY.

Former Cowboys LB coach Matt Eberflous, who is currently the Colts DC, is supposedly on HC lists for interviews. He was loved by the defensive players in Dallas who played for him.

All of this could get interesting if the Cowboys end up getting bounced early and embarrassingly this Saturday. I’m not predicting it- in fact, I think the Cowboys have a real shot to make some noise in these playoffs. But what if....?

Would Richard or even Eberflous be possible future HCs here? I’m hoping we win big in the playoffs so this can become a moot point.

the league is changing and so are teams philophies, lets see what happens. Do teams want the same retreads? do they want new minds? so much more at our dispoals that id hate to see retreads at this stage.

yes we re keeping Garrett, stupid as it is. but we might have to look at colleges or ex players to fill spots.

I don't see JG being fired under any circumstances. They could lose 24-0 on Sat. JG is here in 2019. Need to look for OC/QB coach...I think both of those guys are gone once the season ends.

With so many non-traditional QBs in the league, the NFL needs to start hiring more college coaches.

im not a fan of that, but i think you are right. I think the gap between the two is so wide we ll need those guys education.

..problem with HC positions. They want turnaround the 1st season....lol.. It takes time to build a good team. Franchises now, will hire anyone who gives them hope for post season football the next year. Its a tough gig. I personally, dont think RIchard will leave, right just yet. I think he stays with Dallas another 2-3 yrs.

fans dont get this, a lot of teams will question if he was the strength of Seattles defense or the talent. Now you talk on tihs board and its the talent that does everything. So, if thats teh case why the fire to get KR? Also, not all coords make good HCs. So there is that factor. Tons and tons of factors to consider and any number of guys can set you back

Making him HC is a big step. But first the impossible and that is JJ tiring JG. I don’t see that happening. What I do see is..

JJ throws a lot of money a Richard and gives him DC and assistant HC title to try to get him to stay. We don’t even know if Richard wants to be a HC right now in his career. He is a passing and secondary coach. HC is a huge step.

Marinelli steps down as DC but stays on as a advisor like we did with O-Line. He can still squeeze talent from players and we can use that, but his prevent Defense plays have to go.

Linehan is gone. He was lucky he didn’t go with alexander at the bye week. So we will need a new OC and maybe we get a newer playbook. Or revised and updated. Someone to call the plays and use Dak a little better. Run first OC, who that will be I have no clue. If we get put out at one and done then Linehan is fired before he leaves the building. Especially if there is more questionable playcalling. But even if we win the SB I believe we move on unless he calls the games of his life. He is the scapegoat that allows JG to keep his job and we all knew it going into the season.

i am ok with this, id do one better but i dont think its the case. Id sit Richard down and say we ll start teaching you to be an HC if you agree to be the HC here, and you learn from Garrett and when Garrett moves on you ll take the big stage in the league. Give him reign to talk with Will McClay and bring in guys he wants for teh future, let him see his mistakes now and make some moves.

Absolutely but a lot hinges on whether Richard is willing to let JJ still run the team the way he has with JG being HC.

yup, that is the factor that makes or breaks everything. wont even try and argue that.

I do believe that JJ has backed off some but you could tell it was his hand that has us going for it now on about every 4th down and short. After JG elected to punt in a OT game and cost us you heard JJ say he should have been more aggressive. And look now. Total aggression.

The only iota of hope i have is that Jerry said Garrett needs to get results in the post season , its a tiny bundle of hope because in the same sentence he called Garrett a 'genius' .

Not if we collect a couple of wins in the playoffs.

If the offense performs as hoped..

Linehan and Moore stay.

We are going to have enough problems replacing Richards.

No way do we want to disrupt both sides of the ball for next year.

I would not mind Todd Haley back.
