I got hooked on the game Path of Exile

Free game... looked like Diablo and I liked Diablo so I gave it a shot.
It is cray cray!
The gameplay is simple... kind of, but making the character/build is incredibly complex!
There must be thousands of combinations to build a... my goodness, whatever you could desire.

Anybody else play this? Have any tips? I am swimming in deep waters, but I kind of like it.

It's a nice diversion from work sometimes.

I have friends who play it extensively and have considered trying it myself several times but from what I have been told by many people is that if you do not create the right character build, it makes it impossible to get past certain parts of it.

Good grief that's intense! I recognize the health and mana bubbles along with potions, but I'm lost on the rest.

Played this for a bit when it was released on Steam and was overwhelmed, played for a couple of weeks and quit. Not my cup of tea but especially for being free it offers an amazing amount of content.

I did a little reading online about the Tree and some builds and I was able to make an old guy, who looks like he should be in a rocking chair run around shocking things to dust all the way outside the screen. I run around and all I see are corpses.

Pretty cool... I can still die pretty easily at the tippy top levels so I have more figuring to do.

I decided to focus on a theme and started with a witch that could have a posse of zambies (yes, zambies), skeletons and a couple of Golems and a wraith and it was okay.
Then I went more solo and used an attack that hit multiple peeps at once and raised the crit levels as much as I could.
There is also a metric-ton of armor and weepins that can do things that exacerbate what you might be aiming for.

I like this solo dude better, for gameplay, as that minion build was boring and this dude just feels more powerful.
Now I need to learn how to buff his D to better levels. I can get to the end of the end-game, but if I'm not paying close attention I can die in a blink.

I'm already thinking of a different build, tbh.
Something ugly and brutish and tough as nails, but probably slower.

My character was the dual wielding rogue type, who did a sort of whirlwind attack. But it’s been a while since I played it, since a close friend of mine still gets me to play diablo 3.
