we beat the saints and were a 4th down stop away from having a chance to take the rams game to OT.
we couldnt stop the run.
if we get serious about our DLine interior...I think we're contenders.
if we don't get stout in the interior then we better out score people.
NOTHING this weekend changes my feelings...WE ARE CLOSER THAN FOLKS THINK.

Several things have to happen to move farther up in the playoffs, as I see it:

1. Frederick has to be back, and as good as ever, or darn close to it.
2. T. Smith has to be able to play at least as good this year.
3. Have to find a way to sign Cooper
4. Have to get a better DT than Collins or A. Woods.
5. X. Woods has to get better at play recognition.
6. J. Smith and VE have to be able to stay healthy.
7. Dak has to be better at getting rid of the ball and running when necessary.

Not that big a list, but if all of those don't work out, or unless a free agent/draft pick can step in for T. Smith or Frederick, for instance, we may see another mediocre season...

don't disagree with your list.
if we do 1-3...and 5-7....it won't matter if we don't get #4 right.
we HAVE to get strong in the middle of our DL.
if we can't stop the run...we better out score people.

In terms of player talent - i answer a resounding no.
In terms of scheme/coaching - I think that is the difference - and you see it the in coaching staffs of the final 4 teams again this year.

Dallas has what, 6-7 probowlers, plus add Freebeard,Amari Cooper, Jaylon, Awuze is pretty close, and a couple other solid players. You saw Gregory's talent, but inexperience limited him in playoffs. Irving is another in a long line of guys that let us down with off-field issues and drug struggles (yes, mental illness is sad, if that is what it is - still sucks when it hurts your sports team). We have some real talent, and some of it quite young in our top 25 "starters".........
Not many other teams have that much. With the relative youth, we have a window of time with Tyron, and Zeke (mileage will catch up), and the salary cap, etc..... It will be up to coaches to put team in position to succeed and win, in many ways.....Have to play to team strengths. The oline coach was a disaster (Cinci guy) trying to change our studs. Linehan was uncreative and stubborn and didn't play to Dak's strengths. Lots we don't see though - why is Garrett not seeing that - is Jerry undermining and forcing guys on his coach, etc etc....

I think we heard teams say 3 or 4 times this season, other team knew what our team was going to do, mostly on offense, but then on D against Rams too - in this day and age - trying to win under those circumstances is probably next to impossible. Game comes down to 2-3 plays and milliseconds and inches each week - not to mention probably a weird ref call or two.

Close, but it takes pretty much everything gelling to win championships.

One things for sure, the Cowboys better get it done in the next couple of years, after that players like T. Smith will be gone, the team will lose top players to free agency, Zeke will wear down if he keeps getting tons of carries and passes and guys will get old and miss games due to injury.

I see the Cowboys as having a 3-4 year window to "get 'er done"...

Do you honestly believe we are that far off?

Based on what I saw in the Rams's/Saints we aren't

Even with JG as our HC

Even with Dak as our QB

Even with JJ as our owner

Even with Kitna as the QB coach

AND the possibility of Mini Me Moore as our OC

We aren't that far behind McVay/Goff, Payton/Brees and the Rams/Saints.

Comments? Bring 'em

Moore as our OC is definately a step backwards.

With good coaching we would see vast improvement, but with our elite FO wanting to fill the vacancies with "on the job trainees" again I doubt we see little progress, most likely we see regression...........after all our OJT have produced elite GM and HC.....more careers will be wasted.

I don't know . We will have one good year followed by a let down .

Either it's a player regression/injury, FO not realizing that teams will adjust and attack our weaknesses from the previous year or just bad bounces.

The Saints and the Chiefs pretty much got robbed yesterday. That's why they are not on the playoffs.

It has happened to the Cowboys several times as well. So unless the officiating gets a lot more fair and consistent, no one has a chance other than the team that the zebras want to win.

We are lightyears behind coaching and GM wise.
Really?

How did we go 7-1 down the stretch?

Luck?

I think not.

The FO identified the problems with firing Alexander and promoting his replacement.

Then those same bumbling idiots traded for Cooper which saved our season.

Lucky huh?

I do not know what team you were watching.

But the one I watched played well..

was well coached on both sides of the ball.

Take a break and watch some highlights.

Even Garrett was better..

going for 4th downs and extending drives..

challenging plays and winning a few calls.

Are you mad because he has won the East 3 out of 5 seasons?

Hmmmm...

Moore as our OC is definately a step backwards.

Only time will tell if your statement is accurate.

It's strange how Moore was considered an average/below average player with a high football IQ, who many saw as having good coaching potential BUT when hired as a coach was considered to be a poor choice because he was an average/below average football player. That makes no sense. Fact... some good players have made poor coaches, and some very average players have made good coaches. You are entitled to your opinions but "definitely a step backward" is pure emotion based and not fact based because he hasn't been an OC yet, at any level

Mini-Me Moore...
Lol...

Hey Corso! Question for you, and I don't know that this is your particular area of expertise but here goes......

If you could bring a case against the Officiating, in a civil action, how good a chance would you have of winning it? Never mind that you can't really do this to the NFL but in a civil context, could you win it and if so, would it turn you into the next Shapiro?

What hurt me this season the most is the realisation that we were just one player away from winning the big game: QB.

We didnt have such a competitive team for years now.

MAN DOES IT SUCK!

It's not emotional based. Fact is that "Only time will tell" if anyone off the streets would be a good coach or not, or any random player on the team for that matter. As I stated somewhere before, usually a defensive line coach gets promoted to Coordinator after it is clear that they did a good job there. Is it clear that Moore has done a good job as a QB coach? 2017 was a good year for Dak. 2018 Dak was 3-5, until Cooper came onboard, so would the turn around in 2018 logically be on Cooper or Moore? Then there is the whole deja vu factor, in that we all been here before with Jason Garrett, who had a better resume at the time than Moore. What is emotionally based about not liking any of those points?

Unknown, guys have to start somewhere, and I for one am tired of the "retread" coaching, like Kiffin and Marinelli.

Fresh blood may be just what this team needs...

Sure Unknown guys start somewhere, but usually they get promoted for doing a good job at their last position. Has Dak regressed since 2016? Were we 3-5 until the Coop trade? Has Dak lit the NFL on fire this year? It be different if this was Mahomes QB Coach who got a promotion. Also Moore is moving up the coaching ladder rather quickly it seems. You don't see anything quirky with someone climbing the coaching ladder that fast on a team without any obvious accomplishments? I suppose if you guys were to be running some company, you would promote just anyone from entry level to manager in a three year time span.
