Getting his leadership back in the locker room will be a greater contribution to this team than his performance on the field. This shouldn't be a controversial statement, just a matter of fact. The generalship that Witt carries behind closed doors cannot be replaced and was a void left unfilled though out last season. I doubt he plays 98% of all snaps as he was doing before so his mentorship will become an even bigger factor.

“Tight end Jason Witten has seen 19 contested targets this year and has hauled in 14 of them, for a catch rate of 73.7 percent, the best mark among all skill position players with at least 15 contested targets.” – Mark Chichester, Pro Football Focus

From 2017.
But he’s old and slow.
Still somehow always open.
Especially if his defender is wearing a giants jersey.

The very best thing you can do for Prescott is to give him a quality TE target. This year the draft is rich in them. It's the strongest TE group in years. You can get one even without a first round pick.

Instead we retread.

This is far more important than worrying about snap counts and how much Witten will play. They will not address the position this offseason because of this comeback.
Yes but Witten sells jerseys and hope for fans.

I agree. Let’s hope we use this draft pick on another weakness in our roster.

Exactly. witten should be the TE coach. make Jarwin and Schultz into mini wittens.
It's not that easy. First of all the talent needs to be there and neither Jarwin, or Schultz were ever on Witten's level in his prime. Those guys are more possession/short route receivers Witten could stretch the field. Don't get me wrong I think Witten is done and has been done but I do think he'd be an excellent coach especially for receiving tight that can stretch the field. Something we should be looking at in the draft.

-----The world is being robbed of Witten's comedic genius in the booth!

You mean when he said that the player "pulled a rabbit out of his head".....that was classic!!! He is 100% responsible for us not getting the TE from South Dakota St., who will be a fixture with Philly for the next 10 years.

Beasley.

When I heard Jones chirping that Hurns was coming back, I thought that was somewhat odd to hear in February just after the dude suffered a serious injury. I love Witten, but come on, going to be 38 and didn't play last year. This is a bad move, IMO.

I’m of the camp we don’t need to waste one of our few picks on TE.
Schultz and Jarwin at the end of the season showed real promise. Witten going to play 25 snaps a game. And now we can focus on the real issues at hand with the team...

DEFENSIVE LINE
safety
Offensive line depth
linebacker
Speed RB

What's it going to be then, eh?

Why is it so hard for fans to understand this no more than a bargain bin/bottom feeding signing like we've done previous years. It just so happen to be a former HOF player who took a year off.
A one year deal ranging between $3.5-$5M for one year is not a bargain basement deal.
