Cowboys and Lawrence not close on deal

Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Cowboys and Lawrence are “not close” on a long-term deal. Barring an “unexpected miracle offer,” the Cowboys will be forced to apply the franchise tag, if they want to block him from unrestricted free agency.

This is looking like he’s gonna be franchised. Best case might be just to franchise and trade. Will get a RD1 pick. Don’t let him take this offseason hostage.

Exactly.......which I why I said, if they tag him, things can get ugly real fast.

Exactly........never mind it usually take these guys 2-3 years to find their groove. A player like DLaw can hit the ground running in the same sense Cooper did for us.

Didn't want to commit to him last year so we paid him FT value. Then he had another good year and the price went up.

Then, as is seemingly typical of Dallas, lots of public posturing culminated in being "not close on a deal". Along the way, RG got suspended again and we lost even more bargaining power.

Dallas could have just signed him to a 5 year deal last offseason and his first two years probably wouldn't have cost as much as two consecutive tags. Plus we'd have a rate locked in as the market keeps growing.

so you should OVERPAY just because the player and agent is demanding it? no thats not good business.. they are negotiating and I guarantee its not lowballing, DLaw wants Mack and Donald money and he frankly is not on that level, sure a few spots below and the Cowboys are going to make a great offer but in no way should just cave and overpay..

this isnt FF and monopoly money and for one I dont like Tank not having shoulder surgery within a month after the season ended..hes playing hardball and making threats to not have surgery and hold out.. I want the guy back but not one who wants to play agame like this..if a man cant live on 19mil a season over 5years with say haf fully guaranteed and needs his ego stroked, lets trade him and get value..

At number 3, they can get an elite DL prospect at a cheap price (rookie scale) with the option of a 5th year.

If they trade for Lawerence, they are getting a player that has been suspended, has back issues, injury concerns, and have to pay him $20m plus.

And Jerry Jones said in his CowBus interview yesterday that if DeMarcus Lawrence is expected to miss regular season games or part of off-season activities because of having surgery, it would have to accounted for in the contract offer.

Meaning less money.

Tank should have already gone under the knife immediately following the season. Players should always have an insurance policy in place to safeguard the possibility of losing future earnings.
