The Rams DL (3-4):
Brockers R1-14
Suh R1-2
Donald R1-13

The Cowboys DTs (4-3):
Woods UDFA cut by the Titans

Crawford R3, best position is Strong Side DE, played parts of the season at RDE.

M.Collins R3, good and underrated but played through foot pain all season (every season).

Caraun Reid R5, cut by multiple teams in 2018 including the Cowboys

Ross UDFA and 3 year CFL player, out injured for the Rams game

David Irving UDFA, MIA most of the season including the Rams game.

Datone Jones R1-26 (Packers)8, projected as one of the top 3 in the rotation going into training camp but ended up on IR all season.

The Rams had the worst run defense in the league and the Cowboys were 5th, by y/a. The Rams had 2 more total sacks.

I get your point...but there's not really a correlation.

yet another post without true point like Future said no true differences other then cost..If DI would have played all year , it would have been different story..guys a tool but ability is stud level and we lose a lot with him gone..hes easy a 10-13 sack guy in 16 games if not more..waste of talent for sure..

Problem is it echoed another poor game we had VS the Colts and in particular Mack. To me, we have a good overall defense. However, the defense can be exploited.

An interesting evaluation would be what common thread there were to the Colts and Rams games

Sure, stat's are misleading if you look at a 17-point data set and then...ignore 16 of them and make a hypothesis based on an anomaly.

I've probably used stats professionally more than most people at CZ and one of my degrees is in Mathematics.

I'm not the Neanderthal football fan that always answers facts with "I seen it with my own eyes, I don't need no fancy stats".

The biggest job of anybody that uses stats professionally is to attempt to prove their own stats to be wrong (i.e. testing the conclusions). There are some simple and some complex methods of testing stats based conclusions.

A very simple test in football is that if the stats indicate that teams participating in the Super Bowl had a defense that sucked, then there is a great chance the stats are misleading.

The Rams defense was 3rd in takeaways.

Historically, defenses ranked high in takeaways but low against the run are those that gamble to some extent and often focus in pass defense at the expense of run defense.

Teams with good passing offenses can play this style because it's hard for opponents to use rushing success to matchup. Trading possessions with one team being pass focused and one being run focused, the pass focused team wins a majority of those battles.

That's pertly why I brought that up. Usually you do a great job of using statistics to support your position. But in this case, the statistics say the opposite of what you're contending.

The main thing that came from the debates a few years ago about the claims that "Rushing does not correlate to winning" was that yards are not a good measurement of the value of a team's rushing ability or ability to stop the run.

It turns out that it's difficult to measure the value of rushing or the threat of the rush. Defenses adapt. If they want to shut down the rush they commit resources to do it at the expense of pass defense and vice-versa but the commonly available stats don't ahow 8 in the box vs 7, etc...

Wade Phillips defenses have always leaned toward pass defense over a hard committment to stopping the run. That's why he had 295 pound Jay Ratliff as the NT when he was in Dallas. It's why he can play Aaron Donald as a 5-tech (3-4) DE without wasting his talent. Donald would be wasted in the traditional Parcells type 3-4 defense.
