Do you see them being players in the second tier of free agents to add some depth to safety, defensive line and offensive line?

Looking back at key Dallas free agent signings that worked out well, you have the Haley signing, which worked because he was the extra bit of defense the team needed to get "over the hump". Same with Deion. Looking back years ago, guys like Howley filled a definite need, again, one guy.
If you need half a dozen free agents to get your team up to speed it means your drafting sucks big time. Free agents usually cost lots of money, or draft picks, and they better shine or you've screwed yourself. Cooper did pretty good last year, but can you keep him?
Free agency is fine, as long as you're improving one area markedly and you are judicious in how many you sign.
To me getting Earl would be fine, but if you do, that's it, stick with the young guys like Woods, Awuzie, VanderEsch, etc. otherwise. Of course I'm looking long term, if someone feels like the team needs to go all in and win one SB, then the team falls back to mediocrity for another 10 years or so and that's okay, then fine, grab all you can get and hope like heck they ALL or nearly all turn out GREAT....
