It makes sense, but after the Cobb acquisition and Tavon Austin re-signing I'm not sure why Hurns is even still on the roster.

I know he had the bad leg injury and he's a heck of a nice guy and teammate, but this is a business.

For those of us wondering what the team would do with Hurns and his contract, here it is:

My guess is some of this will be used towards Quinn.

What do y’all think?

Yes, I could see some of that being used towards Quinn. However, I think we might also use that to extend another player's contract. I think this may be how we end up extending DLaw's contract. As I understand it, this will essentially be starting as a 1 year rental, and Quinn shouldn't cost that much to resign at his age and with where he is. So, I'd rather think that we'll be using it for DLaw.

It's not costing the team anything extra to keep him until the final roster cut at the end of training camp. He only gets paid above the guaranteed price if he makes the opening day roster. As such, why not keep him in case someone gets injured? For that matter, if he is willing to accept a lower salary he might be a good guy to keep anyway - veteran - big target - considered a great teammate and example with his work ethic, etc … As for the leg injury, while it was hard to look at, I believe it was a clean break with no muscle or ligament damage, so it should heal nicely.

All excellent points. But the Cowboys are going to need all the cap space they can get- right now- if they want to get deals done for both DeMarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn.

Wide receiver is looking pretty deep right now and the extra cash from Hurns just might be the difference in landing Quinn. Noah Brown showed last year he can fill the Hurns role pretty well.

Yes, and I think that the last WR spot in TC will come down to Noah Brown, Hurns, and probably a rookie. I must say, I do agree with whoever it was that is surprised that Hurns is on the roster. Pity what happened to him, and he seems like a nice chap. However, I do think he'll probably be on the outside looking in at the end of it all.

That's why I think it will probably take a reduced salary for Hurns to stick. Of course, the team may postpone doing anything until they see how Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown step up in training camp.

IMO, which is obviously wrong and not right, we will end up

1) Amari Cooper (#1)
2) Michael Gallup (#2)
3) Randall Cobb (Slot)
4) Tavon Austin (Gadget, moves around WR)
5) Noah Brown (Blocker, subpackage guy)
6) Cedrick Wilson (Rookie contract, speed, developmental guy)

It will be hard/damn near impossible for Hurns to beat out Austin, Brown, Wilson whom are all on cheap deals and play STs
