Let’s not overrate Rams loss on run D

That's not true at all. The Packers rushed for over a hundred yards in their win over the cowboys in the 2014 divisional round playoff game . the Lions rushed for 90 yards and over 4 yards a carry in the wild card game the week before that. Th Montgomery rushed for over 80 yards and averaged over five yards a carry in the. Packers2016 divisional round game against the cowboys . the packers didn't need to run much though because aaron Rodgers threw for over 350 yards.
I said the last four games, Packees in 2014 wasnt the last four games. "That's not true at all". Except it 100% is lol

I think there is some truth in both sides.

Our run defense as whole was very good.

But TWO games last year in particular we were gashed. Both games we played against mountains for olines.

We need some beef to come in for those type games/situations. We dont have to draft necessarily at the top for that beef, but we need them on the roster imo.
Thank you. That is a very reasonable position.
I don't know why more people on this board can't hold such a common sense outlook

We lost that game because our D co-ordinator decided to keep the opposition as faceless, nameless entities, aka 'we do our thing', despite Chicago already showing the league in December how to shut down their offence (hide your formation till after 15 seconds left on clock so Goff doesn't have McVays help with audibles) , which worked for the rest of the teams that played them in December and eventually Pats

Rams killed everyone between the 20s last year. That was more then than us. We needed to keep them from scoring and match pace.

Had we converted 4th and 1, we very possibly tie that game, and then who knows?

So your approach is: when truth slaps you in the face, just close your eyes tighter and hope you're dreaming?

We have a stupid defensive philosophy that ignores 1T DT and top end safeties and continuing that approach will mean the same results

The same results being a top 5 run defense? I didn’t make up the stats. They are what they are. People just pretend that NO, SEA games did not happen.

Many posters keep citing the Rams loss as a reason to get bigger run stuffers on the DL. While it is always embarrassing to give up 270 yards rushing in a playoff game, everything points to that game being an outlier. In 2018, our run defense was 5th overall in the league. We were fourth in the league in average yards per rush (3.8). We shut down great running teams like NO and SEA. We had two bad games: IND and LAR. As has been reported, the LAR collapse had more to do with being out coached than poor effort or play by our DTs. When you watch the video, there are gaping holes because DTs are out of position, not necessarily because they were being blown off the ball. And we cannot discount that we just got a bad “field matchup.” We are built for speed and penetration on turf. Put same DL on that soft, sloppy grass field and they are not as quick and disruptive.

All this is to say that... do not be surprised or disappointed when in the 2nd or 3rd round we go with an undersized 3T like Gerald Willis, Zach Allen, Jaylon Ferguson, LJ Collier, rather than a 320+ pound run stuffer. And if we do, we’ll be fine.
It was Men playing against boys in the pits. That's exactly why we lost that game. If we had the ball in our hands last we very well may have one. They ran over us like we weren't there

He was but the rams already had nearly a hundred yards before he was injured. If anything it would help make the case that more depth was needed at defensive tackle.
The cowboys signed covington so hopefully that's enough to address it.
If you can't stand your ground in the middle if you can't get pressure on the quarterback through the middle you cannot win in this league. The Patriots prove that against Kansas City

There is going to be a lot of upset folks if they think Dallas is going to draft a 1T. It’s well known that Marenilli just dosent utilize a 1T. He wants quick twitch, penetrating players that hustle to the ball through the whistle. Basically, he likes the mob attack mentality, which has worked regardless what some may think.

DT lineup of..

TCrawford (flex)
Hyder (flex)
Collins
Woods
Covington
Ross

Sure there’s room to churn the bottom and I expect they will, but I personally don’t believe they’re going to use the 2nd Rd pick.. and I wouldn’t be surprised if the wait till the 4th Rd to upgrade.

Maybe prospects like:

John Cominsky
Tristen Hill
Kingsley Keke

I think the defensive tackles name is Woods. He's not built in the same mold that he usually likes. I hope he's changing . CrossFit is a good run stop or when he's in the middle but he can't bulrush he shouldn't be there

Covington had a good year last year.

It was a smart signing that should help.

I don't like to ever proclaim I'm right, but come on dude, marrinelli was flat out not prepared for how the rams kept us off balance... We had a great run defense that got very badly out coached. I've watched this game over and over, they we're on their heels with a horrible gameplan... This is nearly all on the lack of adjustments and piss poor old school d marinelli was calling.

Rams were not concerned about Dallas run defense BEFORE the game. They saw enough on tape. Dallas has gone incredibly long time without disrupting DT. I would throw Suh AND 2nd round pick at problem.
