From ESPN, these are not the comments of a guy who is playing hardball in negotiations:

"I mean, I want to be a Cowboy forever," Prescott said Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark, where he and his teammates were raising money for the Salvation Army through the Reliant Home Run Derby. "I think the people that are doing the deal feel the same way, so to me, it's no rush. I know it will get done."

"It's all generational money, life-changing money, so it's just a blessing to be able to be in this position," Prescott said. "But as far as the numbers are concerned, my focus is on the locker room, and that will all take care of itself."

I would too if they are talking 30+ million a year.

Dallas definitely should have done this extension before Russell Wilson signed. Dak's agent was probably smart enough to wait though, but Dak should buy Wilson a car or something.

Shouldn't do it at all. Hitting him with a FA tag is so much cheaper if your worried about the 30 being too much. If you think Dak or whomever is truely your guy you can't part with then you shouldn't worry about his 30 million or whatever it is

To be honest they’re probably saving the franchise tag to use it on another player if needed.

I get that some people don’t want Dak locked up long term. But all evidence points to the front office wanting it. So if they’re dead set on doing it. Now is the time.

Let’s just hope it’s structured in a way that lets them cut him in a few years, if he falters.

Those "some" simply don't like Dak, nor want him here. It's entertaining watching them squirm. lol

What's long term? We could have him under control for 3 years and pay way less than 30 a year. So why spend it now? For 2 more years? 3 more? 6 years at 30 a pop is alot. I just don't see the benefit to do it now unless he's actually taking a cheaper contract, say maybe 25 a year. That makes sense. All speculation till he signs though.

A long term extension is usually 5 years. Again. I’m just being a realist. It’s going to happen. All evidence points to that being what the front office wants to do. All the debates about it back and forth won’t change that. So just calling it like I see it.

Just have to hope for the best at this point.

As long as some other team will want him in the future (and there usually is a team that's hard up for a QB) a contract isn't written in stone.
