Instead of posting an OTA thread about who looks fast in shorts...Here’s some scatter-shooting Cowboys fun facts I gathered while yawning and waiting for the 2019 season to start...
  • In the nearly 60 years of Cowboys football, there are only 4 teams we have a losing record against all time- somewhat surprisingly, it’s Cleveland, Denver, Baltimore and Green Bay.
  • The FIRST WIN in franchise history was against.....The Pittsburgh Steelers (27-24) on the opening game of the 1961 season. This after going winless (0-11-1) in the inaugural 1960 season.
  • Tom Landry was only 35 years old when named head coach of the Cowboys before the 1960 season. That’s two years younger than Jason Witten today, Lol.
  • From 1967-1969, the Cowboys played in what was then called the “Capitol” division. When the AFL-NFL merger happened in 1970, the name changed to the “NFC East” division.
  • The Cowboys won a whopping 14 playoff games in 10 years- 1970-79. The next best era was of course between 1991-96 when they won 12. In the last 23 seasons, we’ve won 3...ouch.
  • The Cowboys have 35 playoff wins all time, best in NFL. But 32 playoff wins happened before 1996.
  • The Cowboys actually won a playoff game without scoring a TD- In 1970, they beat the Lions 5-0 in the divisional round.
  • The Cowboys first training camp in 1960 was at St. John’s military academy in Delafield, Wisconsin.
I could go on....I’m sure you guys have some too.

While other teams came from the AFL and other leagues, the Dallas Cowboys were the first true born expansion team. In 1960, Dallas welcomed the Cowboys to their city and never looked back.
The last original Cowboy to retire was RB Don Perkins on 7/18/69.
In Super Bowl VI, the Cowboys allowed the fewest points in SB history when they held the Miami Dolphins to just 3 points. No team has scored fewer.
The Cowboys first 1,000 yard rusher was Calvin Hill with 1,036 yards in 1972.
The Cowboys only non-playoff season of the 70's was 1974, when they finished 8-6 and 3rd in the NFC East.
In 1990, the Cowboys began a streak of 160 sold out regular and post-season games. This included 79 straight sell outs at their former home Texas Stadium, and 81 straight sell outs on the road.
Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin became the first and only WR/RB duo to each amass 1,600+ yards in a single season. It was the most successful WR/RB season of all time.
The Cowboys all time leading scorer is Emmitt Smith with 986 points from 1990-2002.

One good playoff run this year and the Browns could equal our total number of playoff wins in a single season. Imagine how embarrassing that would be?
They’re definitely due. But that’s the difference with a more normal front office structure. You have a better opportunity to finally break thru.

Probably less than 10% of Cowboys fans under 40 have heard of him.

If only there were some useful storage of knowledge to help these people... lol.
Most young fans also don’t know how hard it was in the early 1960s for African-American players to get good housing living in Dallas. Black Players like Don Perkins, Mel Renfro, Bob Hayes and others had a very difficult time being able to buy a house or rent an apartment in a “white” area of town. Discrimination was a real factor in those days before the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

If you read Mel Renfro’s auto biography, he goes into this.
