As mentioned above Dallas being a true expansion team in 1960 in the NFL. How many know how that came about?

The Commanders owner did not vote for Dallas to get a team. He did not want a team in Dallas.
So in order to get that vote, Clint Murchinson, obtained the rights to the Commanders bands theme song. And said they were not allowed to play it.
So they made a trade, he gave the song rights to the Commanders, and he voted as the final vote to give Dallas the franchise.

Cowboys who have scored touchdowns in the Super Bowl:
Duane Thomas (2)
Lance Alworth
Mike Ditka
Drew Pearson
Percy Howard
Tony Dorsett
Butch Johnson (2)
Golden Richards
Tony Hill
Mike Hegman
Billy Joe DuPree
Jay Novachek (2)
Jimmie Jones
Michael Irvin (2)
Alvin Harper
Emmitt Smith (5)
Ken Norton
James Washington

18 different Cowboys scored 26 touchdowns in 8 Super Bowls.
Here’s a fun TD list....Name all the Cowboys players who have thrown a TD pass in a SB. There’s one outlier on this list- the players are Craig Morton, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman.....AND.....Robert Newhouse, the bowling ball RB who threw a TD pass to Golden Richards in SB XII.

Here’s a fun fact- the late great “Dandy” Don Meredith was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, TX where he became a star athlete in the late 1950s. This is the same high school that just hired Art Briles as the new head football coach.
Yep... although not sure a “ fun” fact.

Of course being an Alumni and supporter of Briles I’ve followed this probably more closely than most. Briles deeply embedded HS connections landed him this position. And I of course knew Dandy was from there which there is no connection to Briles hiring who will not be teaching just coaching for a mere 85 grand a year. Chump change compared to the multi million settlement he received from Baylor who basically used Briles as a scapegoat to save their butt limiting several million dollar lawsuits and NCAA sanctions.

Briles currently coaching in Italy simply wanted to be closer to home. The guy just loves to coach. I still think he’d be a terrific OC for our Dakster. If anyone could develop a spread offense to highlight his skill set, I’d put my money on Art.

After reading the back story of the Baylor scandal, I can’t be a fan of Briles. Inexcusable behavior IMO.

Not really any worse than most of the great recruiters in NCAA. Baylor administration simply didn't act on police reports and incidents and then tried to blame it on Briles.

Baylor had never had that level of success and didn’t know how to deal with it. You can’t assume your HC is policing student athletes.

Very cool. I've never heard that before.

Here’s a fun fact I guess. Actually it’s sad fact.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is only owner in NFL history to fire 3 Super Bowl winning HC’s.

Fun fact:

Cowboys original owner Clint Murchison, jr is only owner to own his own Island. Originally purchased by Clint’s business associate Sid Richardson San Jose Island just north of famous Mustang Island and popular tourist destination Port Aransas, Texas.

It was originally purchased by his father and they entertained the powerful and famous there including Presidents Roosevelt and Johnson.

I toured the Island just a few years ago. It has one main estate , landing runway and basically serves as a fishing outlet for day users.

Instead of posting an OTA thread about who looks fast in shorts...Here’s some scatter-shooting Cowboys fun facts I gathered while yawning and waiting for the 2019 season to start...
  • In the nearly 60 years of Cowboys football, there are only 4 teams we have a losing record against all time- somewhat surprisingly, it’s Cleveland, Denver, Baltimore and Green Bay.
  • The FIRST WIN in franchise history was against.....The Pittsburgh Steelers (27-24) on the opening game of the 1961 season. This after going winless (0-11-1) in the inaugural 1960 season.
  • Tom Landry was only 35 years old when named head coach of the Cowboys before the 1960 season. That’s two years younger than Jason Witten today, Lol.
  • From 1967-1969, the Cowboys played in what was then called the “Capitol” division. When the AFL-NFL merger happened in 1970, the name changed to the “NFC East” division.
  • The Cowboys won a whopping 14 playoff games in 10 years- 1970-79. The next best era was of course between 1991-96 when they won 12. In the last 23 seasons, we’ve won 3...ouch.
  • The Cowboys have 35 playoff wins all time, best in NFL. But 32 playoff wins happened before 1996.
  • The Cowboys actually won a playoff game without scoring a TD- In 1970, they beat the Lions 5-0 in the divisional round.
  • The Cowboys first training camp in 1960 was at St. John’s military academy in Delafield, Wisconsin.
I could go on....I’m sure you guys have some too.
Nice read Bob..
