Lets make no mistake about this, Wentz gave the Eagles a massive hometown discount. With remaining money owed ($154 M) and 6 years that is an avg of $25.7 Mill year. If Wentz even sniffs another MVP type year, that contract becomes most favorable team contract in all of sports. Wentz is only the #9th highest paid QB in football with top 3 potential. Garoppolo & Stafford are still ahead of him in avg yearly number (let that sink in). Wentz contract will allow Eagles to be aggressive in FA or resigning their players.

Now for Cowboys, Wentz hometown discount contract put Dallas in a bad spot because Dak will want more. That won't play out well on national or local level because most see Wentz as superior talent. Every game Dak contract will be compared to Wentz. Every losing streak will come back to Dak contract. Its really this simple. Since Wentz & Dak new contracts are happening at same time, If Dak makes more money then he has to out-perform Wentz over next six years. IMO thats wishful thinking.

The Cowboys are only in a "precarious situation" if they allow themselves to be pigeonholed into it. They don't have to be. There is no one who can order Dallas to sign Dak to an exorbitant contract, save for the Cowboys themselves. If they want to let Dak walk, they can. If they want to low-ball him to a low contract and dare him to sign elsewhere, they can. Dak is replaceable.

We need to stop this NFL trend of team finances being held hostage by one marquee QB who eats up a disproportionately large amount of the cap.

Last meeting between the 2 Dak had 455 yards and 3 TD to Carson 228 in what was billed as a must win.

Hey Wood, how you been?

I was reading up on this contract and really, it's a 107 Mil deal, looks like. I mean, I honestly think it's about what this kid is worth. He has a lot of talent but he has real issues staying on the field. I think that this is the high bar for Dak. JMO.

Why do you neglect the glaring fact that Dak has led his team every season since they were both drafted , has a better won/loss record (including playoff games and victories) and actually plays all the games ? Based upon availability alone Wentz isn't worth anywhere near that type of coin.........

Because Wentz looks prettier when he loses. lol

Free markets can't be stopped by you, the Cowboys front office, etc etc. If a team wants a guy bad enough they will pay him. It's that simple.

Why are you using team records to discuss individual play?

You viewing the 2 contracts as 1. The only part of that of the $25M is true is what the Birds will pay on average over the next 6 years. Which is not how Dak or his agent will be view it and they should not either. Wentz's new contract pays on average $32M per year. The "new money" is what Wentz and his agent are after.

Jerry always falls in love with a player and negotiates against himself

If we get an average of 28 Million per year people will be happy about that. It's 33 Million a year that has most folks freaked out.

This is a good deal for both IMO. I mean, the Eagles owe 22 and change no matter what happens so an extension for 25 a year is a really good deal for them and it's more then fair considering his history, to me. I think that Dak should get paid a little less but if he's not, then this number is where he is likely at. I don't think Dak gets paid 32 mil a year and I also don't think anybody is going to pay him that, at this point in his career.

Because QB's are largely judged on their won/loss record.............................

I agree with this statement but if you believe this, then how does anybody justify 30 mil a year? I mean, the point is winning and not in the regular season but in Championships. That's really what the game is about in the NFL.

I would not be happy with 28. This sets the bar so paying 28 is just a waste of money to me. It only sets you up for a larger contract down the road, if and when Dak actually proves that he is the man.

Fair or not Agents use the pay of peers to help determine the market value.

Wentz was the number two overall pick and has been paid well up to this point. Dak was a 4th round pick and hasn't been adequately compensated. Fair or not his representation is going to "tax" us for that back pay performance. (I think it is owed)

Dak would be smart to take a 25-27 mil a year deal to help the team keep players around him. But I get it if he wants big BIG money now because he's owed.
