Just me, but I'm not feeling Moose and a front office gig. Maybe dropping Moose from his name will help...LOL.

Like many NFL TV analysts, Daryl “Moose” Johnston aspires to work for an NFL team. Unlike many NFL TV analysts who aspire to work for NFL teams, Johnston is getting experience working for a pro football team while working as a TV analyst.

For now, Johnston will work with the Dallas XFL team as director of player personnel, assisting coach and G.M. Bob Stoops

Good luck to him. I think he has the Football IQ to be in a Front Office role. What I would really like to see is more football players as owners. Seems to be a good ol boy system in all major sports in ownership. Specifically in football if you had more owners that related to the issues of the players go through I think it would make for a better product for all involved including fans.

more than likely the xfl goes the way of the alliance football league. should be a very short on the job training stint for the moose.

I agree but seem it would be better if he could get a front office job on ANY NFL team asap. Working under a former college coach for a start-up league is not the ideal way of strengthing your resume, especially if it fails.

Former NFL players, while well paid during their careers, do not have the financial clout to buy a team. At best they could be a small part of an ownership group.

It would have to be a QB like a Peyton Manning that did well financially as a player and with endorsements. Or someone who has financially took the steps to start their own business outside of football to start their own business like a Darren Woodson in Real Estate who can take advantage of his celebrity status to generate revenue on high end housing. Most owners started off as business owners in something other than football....for example Jerry Jones. It can happen and IMO can happen especially with the way the cap is starting to go up and players are starting to get paid.

Or someone who has financially took the steps to start their own business outside of football to start their own business like a Darren Woodson in Real Estate who can take advantage of his celebrity status to generate revenue on high end housing. It can happen and IMO can happen especially with the way the cap is starting to go up and players are starting to get paid.

Those guys couldn’t swing it on their own. The Cowboys are worth 5-6 B, so I assume the average team is worth 1.5 - 3 B. Payton would be able to swing a pretty big share, certainly, bigger share than most former players, but there would need to be other significant investors in the mix.

While I can’t imagining them becoming a long-term enterprise, on their last go-round, and unlike the recent Alliance League, the XFL completed one full season before folding. This time, through a split and sale of WWE stock — plus other investors — Vince McMahon has a lot more money to play with has likely learned a thing or two from past mistakes. So the new XFL might last 2, possibly 3 seasons.

Not even in the ballpark in terms of the sort of money you need.

A rising cap means nothing. You need the sort of wealth to cover those salaries many times over. The sort of wealth that can withstand a lockout that stops revenue dead in its tracks for as long as needed.

Players might under up as minority owners who act ad the face of a franchise. More likely as a GM. But owner? Not unless you've got a rich family.
