There was an infographic on Twitter.

Dak vs Brady after the cooper trade.

Dak beat him in every category.

Really? I knew things improved, but that's still surprising. In a good way, of course. Still, you can't really make a fair comparison on such a small sample size.

Guys like Leaf and Jamarcus were overrated and/or overdrafted and didn't really last long enough to say they were continually overpaid. Guys like Sanchez and Cutler at least provided some measure of worth to their team compared to Bradford. Lifetime earnings vs lifetime production, make guys like Sanchez and Cutler look like bargains

$ per passing yard
$3,478 Cutler
$4,833 Sanchez
$6,685 Bradford

$ per completion
$40,090 Cutler
$56,486 Sanchez
$70,093 Bradford

$ per TD pass
$538,308 Cutler
$863,067 Sanchez
$1,262,357 Bradford

$ per Win
$1.6 million Cutler
$2.0 million Sanchez
$3.8 million Bradford

It can be argued if a player plays up to their worth or their contract, but I don't think there is another player that has continually been overpaid during their career quite like Sam Bradford. He still made $15 million last year for playing 3 games. He is the undisputed champ of the NFL overpaid.
Perhaps . My point is there were others. And will continue to be. Bradford’s injuries dictated his results more than performance IMO, He had some upside and why was continued to be given a shot. It’s not like he was a bust from the onset. Just couldn’t stay on the field.

It’s tough to compare dollars in different times. A bust is a bust and over paying is over paying.

Dak Prescott - .667

I agree wins aren’t the only factor to look at with a QB, but you’ve shot your own argument in the foot with this stat. Dak averages 1.5 to 1.6 wins more per year than the guys you named (10.6 wins per year to Tebow’s 9.1 and Rivers 9.0). 9 wins rarely gets a playoff spot, but that extra 1.5 to 1.6 wins would ensure a playoff spot most years.
Think about this post and come back when you realize where you messed up.

I like this one, because they were contemporaries:

QB Win%, 1999-2001
1 Dilfer .846
2 Warner .800

Passer rating, 1999-2001
1 Warner 101.6
15 Dilfer 79.9
Good ole Trent. Did his job. Didn't stand in the way of his team. And never signed a contract that made him among the highest paid players in NFL history. He reminds me of someone until you get to that last part.

Your posts are consistently lack content. I guess the idea is to pretend you’ve said something substantive without actually doing it.

When you have to point to wins alone to defend a QB you know you have a fraud player because wins is a team stat and there should be aspects to that QB's play that lead to those wins. Otherwise he's just along for the ride.

Prescott is a fraud and the moment he signs that contract he will be the most overpaid player in the history of the NFL. He positively impacts nothing. He makes nobody around him better. He must be carried.
huh?

Here let me help you by making the remedial point hopefully more obvious. If you looked at the OP and rightfully concluded that hey Tebow wasn't/isn't as good as Phillip Rivers then you should consider that maybe team winning percentage is not a good way of judging a qb. Instead you looked at the OP and said....well my gosh Dak is worth 1.5 wins more per year and he should maybe ask for more money!

That is of course exactly the opposite lesson you should have learned.

Those 3 played during the same time, Cutler did start 3 years earlier, but still comparable. Upside, potential or talent doesn't matter if you you don't live up to it or if you can't play because of injuries. He wasn't a bust from a talent standpoint, but he was a bust from a production standpoint. A bust is a bust regardless of how it happens. He's never started a playoff game or even to a Pro Bowl. He's never done anything to justify what he was paid.

Trent's first year he had a 36.3 passer rating and he threw only 82 passes. I'm not sure that's a fair comparison looking at their 1st 3 years.

Having said that, Trent's first 4 years in the league his passer rating increased every year. Dak can't say that for his first 3 years.

Having said that, QBR is a better statistic to gauge qb play anyhow. And that metric shows Dak's QBR actually decreasing every single year he's been in the league. He finished 17th last year.

Let me be clear. Dak is a rich man's Trent Dilfer. Maybe a very rich man's Trent Dilfer. So sure , let's sign him to one of the richest contracts ever inked in NFL history. Sounds fantastic.

Did Dilfer's team seriously fluctuate in offensive talent his 1st 3 years?
Serious question.

I'm talking free agent losses, age to players and injuries.
And how much did he improve each year? What did he get up to?

And using stats as a factor can leave you with cases like Vinny Testeverde who accumulated a lot of stats (12 in career yards and 16th in career TDs) but who never accomplished anything.

Fans have to accept that there is no perfect or stand alone factor, or even a perfect set of criteria to judge from. The reason for looking at multiple factors is that any individual factor is flawed and therefore cannot be counted on as a stand alone way to judge. The best we can do is look at multiple factors to provide a better overall picture so the flaws of each individual factor can be offset to some degree.

If you pick and choose the stats. Testaverde had a 56.5 completion rate, almost as many interceptions as TDs (275 to 267) and a career 75.0 QB rating. Compare that to a contemporary like Steve Young and Testaverde comes up well short. You've still got to put the picture together when you are using stats, but won-loss is a picture that relies on team more than the individual.

No and neither did Dak's.

He's been pretty blessed all things considered.

Ask Josh Rosen or Kyler Murray if they'd take Dak's 2017 supporting cast. Or any other year really.

Dak's on-field talent level has seriously fluctuated.

It has always been above league average and of his 48 games at least 32 you could say was with elite talent around him. That is a conservative number.

In any case Dak's performance has gotten worse every single year he's been in the league. Why exactly are we excited to pay him top money?

And if it's because we excuse that because his talent hasn't been as good then why exactly are we excited to pay him top money?

And if we can excuse Dak's performance because of the talent around him why do we blame the coaches?

Good questions.
I'm certain you have the answers in hand.
