For those of us under 35, are the Commanders a rival to you?

i was born in 86 so I have no memory of the Commanders hay day in the late 80s/early 90s.

They’ve never been good the same year as Dallas has that I remember. Always a 4-6 seed on the few years they did get in.

So I have no hatred towards them. Philly and the Giants on the other hand are a different story. As are GB and SF from the time in the 90s and Rodgers this decade.

Another team who I don’t have any care towards are the Steelers. The one meaningful game the two teams have played I remember was a 2nd half route in SB XXX

I think the big rivalry of Cowboys/Commanders were in the 80's to early 90's. Maybe a little before the 80"s..

Still a rival. Even in recent years when they didn't have good teams, the Commanders played over their heads against us. That's one of the things that make rivalries great.

During the Romo era for example, the offense was superior to the defense. But that script was flipped in games against the Skins, who always gave Romo fits and our defense usually had to save the day.

Yes. I hate them sooooo much. From the jersey color to their owner to their unfounded optimism; I hate it all. Can’t stand the fans my age because they haven’t even had a franchise QB in their lifetime and still think they’re SB bound. Clear bottom 8 franchise to me.

Funny thing is I used to live in the DC metro area for 7 years and there just as many Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants fans as Skins fans. Revenue has been dipping each of the last 3 years and fans in the area are getting tired of the constant mediocrity and cycle of dysfunction.

I joke with their fans all the time and say they’re my second favorite team because they never disappoint lol. Come December I can take comfort knowing where DC will be

Hating the Commanders just comes with the dinner if you’re a Cowboys fans. Sooner or later they’re going to be good when we are again.

The rivalry is pretty much dead.
Free agency ruined it.
You don't even have the players hating the other team anymore.
Next year you might decide to sign with them if you're a free agent.

I'm 31. The only time I have ever considered the Commanders to be a "rival" of any sort was in the 2005 season, when they swept Dallas (one of those games being the horrific Monday Night Triplets Ring of Honor game where they stunned the Cowboys 14-13 on two deep Santana Moss bombs.)

Other than that, they have been utterly irrelevant. I have usually considered the Giants to be the Cowboys' true rival, during the years of 2006-2016.

I lived in northern Virginia for 6 years and you are right, there sometimes seemed to be even more Cowboys jerseys than Commanders jerseys. Washington D.C. has always been a hotbed of Cowboys fandom, not least because of the African-American community and how the Cowboys were one of the first teams to racially integrate while the Commanders were one of the last.

The primary definitions of a rival is a person or group that you are in competition with or contending against to be on equal or better terms. That makes anyone in our division a rival. Yet, for the Cowboys and their fans, it's clear that the Eagles are our most intense rival at this point in time.

I was born in 85. I unfortunately do not have the same passion for the NFL as I used to so I don't get into the rivalry thing too much anymore. But I absolutely consider the Commanders a rival. I still hate them more than any team. But I was a complete nerd and studied and watch Cowboys history/games. I understand why any cowboys fan no longer consider the Commanders a rival.

Other than them being in the division, no. Honestly I don't really do the whole "rivalry" thing. Division games obviously have a slightly greater importance, but I don't care about facing one team over any other team.

I do feel for you youngins because you missed one of the great rivalries in NFL history. And it wasn't just on the field, George Allen was the only HC to ever get in Landry's head. He'd stand across the field and grin at Tom, licking his hands and rubbing them together and Landry would just give him the stare and look away. But you could tell he knew Allen was looking at him.

Landry was convinced that Allen had spies and asked Schramm to buy out the hotel with rooms next to the practice field and had heard, probably started by Allen, that one of their scouts was going to climb one of the trees next to the field and Landry had them cut it down. That scout was an ex out of shape OL that weighed 300lbs! He couldn't step up on a curb much less climb a tree.

There's nothing like that today, PHL is a pain but nothing like the Skins were with Theismann, Riggins and Talbert, the DL that slugged Staubach.

The only other rivalry that came close for me was KC-OAK with Madden and Stram but that one was on the field but it would get nasty. There were some similarities with the Boys-Skins in that Stram was the sharp dresser, like Landry, for a football coach and Madden always looked like he slept in his clothes and Allen just dressed like a football coach. There were many contrasts in both rivalries.

The Cowboys-Commanders are still my highlight games of the season and I wish they played every TDay. It was always more special when they squared off on TDay.

Not only that, but haven't they actually been taking seats out of their stadium?

He said under 35.

Looks like someone's hopped up on geritol and forgot their bifocals. I told the assisted living nurse to leave the fiber by your dentures.

As far as the Commanders, yes. They stank and I hate 'em. Their fans remind me of Afghanistan, bombed out and depleted. They do stunts for Little Richard on the weekends.
