The NFL Awaits the Arrival of Trevor Lawrence

He hasn’t impressed me all that much. As a general rule, unless they are extremely physically gifted, stay away from QB who come from college teams stacked full of NFL talent, especially when it comes to trading up in the first. Wasn’t Elway’s Stanford team 7-6? Peyton Manning’s Tennessee team got blown out a couple times his senior year.

Any QB can look good with talent like Clemson and Alabama has. Kelly Bryant led Clemson to the CFP and is now having trouble at Missouri. When you’re playing with a RB going to the NFL and 4 receivers who will get drafted, and you’re playing a team with maybe 2 NFL players on the roster of course you’ll look good. Not saying he won’t be a good player, but put away the anointing oil for a freshman who didn’t start the entire year and might only look good due to the talent around him.

Let Dak play out his rookie deal this upcoming season. Then use the franchise tag on him and trade him for draft picks in the 2021 draft. Just tank the entire 2020 season and draft Trevor Lawrence. We will have a dynasty with Lawrence on a cost controlled rookie deal for 5 years. We can also re-sign all of our young studs. I think the Cowboys would win at least 3 Super Bowls if they are fortunate enough to avoid major injuries.

The only difference is, you gotta look legitimately bad when taking da dive.

7-9 is nothing to brag about it. Think about this...Cowboys that have made or are at Pro Bowl level:

Lawrence
Zeke
Jones
Cooper
Witten
LVE
Lee
Quinn

There is a ton of talent. Take Dak out and the season tanks but even that clueless HC could win a few with that roster.

I still don't think Garrett wins 7-9 games with that roster without Dak.

Kitna won 5 games for Garrett. In Garrett's defense, and I can't believe I am saying that, Garrett had a lot of bums at QB beside Dak and Romo. Kitna was at the end of his career, but he was still a decent QB. I thought he played better for us with that poor team and under those circumstances than say, Bledsoe ever did.

Cassell, Weeden and Sanchez have won games in the NFL and even won in the playoffs. They combined for 1 win under Garrett.

I remember when every NFL fan was saying tank for luck...They said he was a generational talent...he has all the tools strong arm, accuracy, football smarts, etc...7 years later, Luck has proven to be a good QB... But never lived up to the hype surrounding him in college. People were guaranteeing multiple SBs for whichever team drafted him. Yet he has failed to weven man make it to one. Needless to say, I am weary of anyone who is claimed too be a can't miss pick.

Truth. But Andy is also the reason Mahomes may not win a SB. Captain Kool Aid Man teams always have a fatal flaw:

Forgetting the run game
Ignoring Defense
Lack of physicality
Roster Mismanagement

His teams always, always, always choke.

Garrett has the same problem, but in opposite areas:

Preparation
Adjustments in game
Personnel mis-use
Overly conservative

You have good point! The thing about Mahomes, he is so good he will be able to overcome any offensive flaws and all the focus should really be on defense and they are working on that. This is going to be Andys best opportunity to win a SB.

No hate here! For me its all about who gives Dallas the best chance to win a SB and I see Dak as another Alex Smith. He isnt even as good as Alex Smith was.

The only scenario I could see us having a shot at Lawrence, would be Dak sitting out in 2020 season (unhappy with Franchise Tag?). Rag-arm Cooper Rush would lose the first 8 games before Mike White gets a chance and leads us to 1-7 the rest of the way.
