It would be a bit ironic if Moore ends up succeeding as a new OC. I know, I know, I know its not happened yet and he will take his lumps...this is the NFL, but the irony is Linehan was very high on Moore. He drafted him when he was in Detroit and brought him to dallas….now he was replaced by Moore!...

If Moore suceeds...then maybe we owe a small bit of thanks to Linehan for brining him here!

That's not irony, that's just how mentorships work. We would have to raise a glass for Linehan if this works out because yeah, he would have set us up for it.

I say all the time that I hated Linehan as an OC, let me take this opportunity to say that doesn't mean I hate Linehan as a person. Good on him if Moore lives up to the high esteems Linehan has expected from him.

Equally interesting that when Linehan was removed, it was perceived by most Cowboys fans that Jerry had overruled Garrett who had publicly stated he expected Linehan back again in 2019. Ironic or at least interesting that the team couldn’t get rid of Linehan fast enough, but then hired his #1 disciple.

I certainly hope Moore succeeds. But ironically if he does, it will probably be because he performs nothing like his mentor Scott Linehan.

Agreed there is nothing ironic here. Linehan drafted, then hired and mentored Moore. Hopefully Kellen has acquired the neccessary skills and steps up to lead this offense. He has the players for an explosive offense.

That’s not irony. It’s “coincidence” maybe. Or else just “notable.”

To be fair: Moore would have to be really successful to outperform the 2016 offense’s production.

Linehan wasn’t that bad. He had JG playbook to call from. Moore is getting a chance to expand things. Maybe situational playcalling will be different.

and another irony could be end up being? .. if Kellen takes the NFL by storm as an successful OC, other NFL teams could end up being interested in hiring him on as their new HC.
new young and a brilliant offensive mind is the kind of McVay trending HCs these teams are wanting to build around nowadays.

Irony is Garrett getting fired mid season only for Moore to be named interim hc and get the job after the season.

I think Linehan wanted to be fired. He gets paid in 2019 for not working.

Like Bill Callahan previously, I think Linehan grew to despise Garrett.

Callahan despised garrett because he sucked as being OC and Garret put him in the back seat and subsequently Callahan left. Callahan was shoved down Garrett's throat by Jones....Callahan didn't accomplish anything since he left and there were three opportunities for him to be promoted in the Commanders organization to OC and they actually went with McVay one time instead of him....he thought he was a good OC, but he is actually a good OL coach...

Linehan came to dallas because Garrett wanted him. I think Linehan was tired and wanted to retire and lost all desire...we don't know if he despises Garrett....you are just assuming, so we have to wait and see

I don't think anyone is going to be crazy enough to hire a HC with only 2 years of coaching experience at any level....he is not going to take NFL by storm. most of the offense will be same scheme and plays from garrett's play book. in fact I think most of the NFL is similar...how many routes are there!!?.....but what would be interesting and that's how he is going to set himself apart is pre-snap movements (since Linehan didn't like that) and then the route combinations.....I think moore is going to get schooled in a few games....this is the NFL....you have to earn your stripes

I believe Moore is bright and talented and certainly hope for his total success. But big success in the NFL for an OC with one year of NFL coaching experience is a tall order. Not impossible, but not easy either.

Most fans have no idea how hard it is to be a successful coach in the NFL. Too many think a guy like Tony Romo with ZERO coaching experience could easily step out of a broadcasting booth and be a huge success coaching. Being able to read defenses from a press box is a lot easier than organizing an entire offensive system, studying film and game planning for multiple opponents. It’s different being a player preparing to play than being a coach.

I do expect Moore to have some success. He does have some talent to work with. But so do our opponents each week. Playcalling is not like a video game. Moore has a lot to learn. Let’s hope he’s a fast learner.

Linehans a dinosaur and even in real life Corporation structures, typically they become mentor and eventually get replaced as the new kid has new drive and motivations high to be better then his mentor.. its no slight he should be proud if he discovered a player who became coach and was better then himself..no irony, lifes reality's.. age catches up to you and at some point you are along for the ride and coasting and the next man up takes your place..

It's my understanding that Linehan and Garrett worked together on the playbook. They were very close in their time at Miami when Garrett was QB coach and Linehan was OC. Can't imagine that Linehan despised Garrett. He did seem to defend him, and I would think Jones was pushing Garrett to fire him. I also perceive that Witten left because of Linehan, and voila, he's back.
