I am perplexed as to why anyone would have an issue with this.

Hurns is a WR that wasn’t all effective last year and is coming off a serious leg injury.

How can anyone have an issue with this?

Releasing him was fine. I'm all for it. I just think the timing of it is bad business and could impact how future free agents view the Cowboys when we did Dez dirty with a late release and we waited just before camp to cut Hurns.

You did:

Or maybe it was just a poor choice of words on your part?
I was basing it on that tweet that was posted. I never once thought he was a lock and him getting cut.....I thought it was a possibility of happening but not for sure. But according to that tweet by Jane Slater they wanted him to take a pay cut. So if he's taking a pay cut....that seems to mean they had intent on him coming back to this team.

Hurns was being given a chance because he was coming off an injury. He had fallen down the depth chart and wasn’t going to be a full go for training camp. Once it became clear he wasn’t going to be ready we released him.

4 million needed for Zekes new deal.

Zeke > Hurns
They have plenty of money to sign Zeke. Don't let them fool you.

I guess that is debatable
Unless its going over my head I don't get the point in asking him to take a pay cut if they were going to cut him anyway.

They were banking that he would step up and he didn’t which forced us to trade for Cooper. Gallop’s development and the addition of Cobb made him expendable. He probably wouldn’t have been a full go at the start of training camp anyway which was going to further reduce his chances of making the team.
But he's never been a #1 in his career lol. So why did they think at this point he would be? Now if you say they thought he could be apart of a receiver by committee then ok. But if they thought he was a #1 then they are fools. He's never been one.

What are you talking about? It wasn't a poor choice of words. If they wanted him to take a pay cut then what does that mean? You believe they wanted him to take a pay cut so they can cut him? What sense does that make?

They're the same people that tried to say he "wasn't that bad" last year. Some people can't admit they're wrong and it's hard to let go.

Think of how many years we had to sit through them refusing to admit Escobar was a bust.

About you saying "he was going to make the team". Can you not admit your own mistakes?

They weren’t banking on him being a #1 they were hoping he would step up and the combination of him and Thompson would be enough. Thompson was a dud and had to be released during the season and Hurns simply wasn’t producing which forced the trade for Cooper.

Wow that's a low offer.
Slater was almost right, he was set to make $6.25M with $1.25M already guaranteed.

So essentially we said take a $775K contract, or a $4.25M paycut, or try to beat it.

Needless to say it's understandable why Hurns would test the open market. I would have have liked him back at $2.75M-$3M CAP hit.

What they thought is they could scheme guys open but forgot who there coach was and realized real quick they better go get some talent because this coach isn't scheming anyone open and this QB isn't throwing anyone open.

Well its no secret they screwed up receiver last year......but Hurns getting cut is that they feel they have better option available now than they did last year. Its not about how good or bad he is.

The mistake is your comprehension. I'm telling you what I meant and you are still asking the same question lol. I'm flat out asking you what is the point of taking a pay cut if a team doesn't want you on a cap friendly deal? You won't answer so may be you are the one that's having a tough time admitting your mistake?

That's exactly what it was. It was moronic then and it is now but they ended up with Cooper......so I guess they saved themselves from that. Very lucky.

I could see him being resigned after testing the market

If we re-sign Hurns back that would be discouraging cuz it would mean we don't trust the younger wide receivers that can make this roster.
Do we have the talent in them to be able to move away from a vet like hurns?

With Cobb, Gallup coming on, Cooper the lead dog, then a few young but exciting prospects, Hurns offered nothing but a fat contract.
