There's a damn good chance this guy cannot keep up with the firepower coming at him/us in the 2019 season. He knows this and so does his agent. If I were in control I'd take the risk that the '19 season humbles him a bit, his stock drops and we get him for a cheaper price after this season.

His value could decrease this season especially if Elliott holds out.
 
It is not like he faced a tough schedule before.
Remember in 2106, even game was his big teat, he passed, so the next game, oh he will be welcomed to the NFL, he passed that test too.

I don't think he is concerned about the schedule nor has it any bearing on his contract.

And is the schedule really all that tough?

This is why Dallas needs to play a small bit of hard ball.

"Here's $30 million per year, or you're going to have to prove it to us."

In the end, that could cost Dak a lot of money if he turns it down. Of course, if all goes well, it could cost the Cowboys a lot of additional money the other way.

I agree with you. I think it's easy for players and agents to "ask for the moon" right now. Why not? There's no chance of injury of you're not on the field. But let's see if that tune changes when there are other bodies flying around out there?
 
Dak wants to get paid because it is time to renew his contract. There is no hidden or alternative agenda. In addition with the upcoming CBA negotiations and the potential of a lockout, he and every other NFL player not under contract will want to ensure they have plenty of money in the bank.

Many people on this board, including myself, have said that Jerry should wait until next year before looking at Dak's second contract. Keep him on the cheap another year.

He may struggle resulting in a better deal. Or he may excel under Kellen Moore and Jerry will have to pay more. It is a risk. But I would prefer to wait until next year.

But it looks to me like Jerry is paying him before the regular season starts.

I don't know that he's viewed it that way but I'd bet his agent has. His agent has also looked at the fact his player's OC has never coached a game.

The majority of thinking is that he will make the QB better but that is completely unknown at this time. What if he struggles executing this offense?

I think the time has passed to consider letting him play out under this contract because they started this with praise and declarations that they were giving him a new deal. A HC and QB playing out their last year with a neophyte OC? The media would love that combo.

Remember as a rookie in the NFL, Dak went to Greenbay and beat an Aaron Rodgers led team. Dak went to Pittsburgh and beat a Big Ben Steelers led team. These are 2 QBs Tony Romo has never beaten on the road. Dak has beaten Carson Wentz led teams for the Division Championship at home and on the road. Dak has beaten Drew Brees, Kurt Cousins, Eli Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Russell Wilson led teams including beating Russell Wilson in the playoffs.

I am sure Dak is not thinking about what you are suggesting at all.

I stated wait until the Cowboys are +10 wins this year and then sign him to that top 5 QB contract. But, it is only going to cost the Cowboys more than it would now. But, if Jerry chooses this GM route, it will be to the shame of the Dallas Cowboys.
