Because the REAL problem is the red zone offense.

It stunk last year. It stunk last night.

Red zone offense needs to be fixed so that you don't need to rely on a kicker.

If you don't fix the red zone offense, you're hooped. Good kicker or not.

It was the first pre-season game. The first team only played one series. And clearly Kellen Moore is holding things back. The only thing we could tell from last night's game is that the team is going to throw deep more.

Games in the NFL routinely come down to a field goal. It's a 16-game season; if you lose one or two games that you should have won with a missed field goal, it could be the difference between the 1 seed and the 4 seed, or the 4 seed and missing the playoffs altogether.

Just ask the Chicago Bears.

They need to address it.

Completely agree. From what I remember the 90s Cowboys kickers didn't matter. If you're a struggling team you'll need that kicker to make them all.

IMO the Bears have no one but themselves to blame. They should have stomped the Eagles rendering the kicker useless.

That is true and I do not disagree with you, kicking is simply a part of the game.

No guy (maybe Tucker, Vinatieri) are automatic. But you need confidence that anything 45 and under is going to be good 95-96% of the time

Maher scares everybody and just doesn’t seem confident nor consistent.

But it is his job to lose and only on him. He won’t be cut unless he gives a reason to be cut.

But I’m with you 100%. Just score touchdowns and your kicker becomes almost irrelevant

Its too early to say much about the Red Zone offense. The first team had one shot in there close and a tipped pass really killed the drive. Let's wait until they get the starting offensive line in there and their full starting team.

Garrett isn't worried. He sees another excuse extension on the horizon.

Even if the offense produced touchdowns, your kicker won't even make the XPs at a respectable clip..so yeah, you should be concerned about the kicker

The observation is not based on one preseason game. This goes back to last year and even the prior year. And that was with their bell cow RB.

Last night was the continuation of a long trend. They need to break that trend otherwise the kicker simply won't matter

We need a more reliable kicker.

If we don’t get one it’ll cost us ballgames. That’s just where we are at right now.

What it tells me is that the offense is actually a bigger problem if they're having to rely on an inconsistent kicker to score points.

That’s fine but the fact still remains that we have a kicker who is not reliable.

If our offense is struggling in the red zone then that makes having a struggling kicker even more worrisome.

Again, we need a more reliable player at that spot no matter how you want to think about it or what anything tells you.

I just can't understand why they didn't go for it on 4th Down. We need all the red zone reps we can get. People told me it's not about scoring. Yeah no kidding I know that. It's about trying to score
