This team shouldn’t be wasting a roster spot on a obsolete FB that can’t lead block in the running game. In that case I rather fill that roster spot with A TE that can play FB/ Receiver .

“Jamele olawole (sp) again signs that this FB cannot lead block at all. he's just leans on or gets in the way.”

Need to look at New England’s or 49rs roster cut to pickup a LB’s head hunting true FB. ( will make life lot easier for Pollard/ Webber while solving red zone issues)

Is Develin available?

I totally agree with you and think you've brought up a very important topic with this thread. The reason this Cowboys team struggles to score in the RedZone or pick up them short yard conversions is because we don't have a true "power" running attack and especially not a true "big" power FB who can create holes the way Develin does for them Patriots runners and the way Moose Johnston used to do for Emmitt Smith back in the 90s.

Why does Garrett not realize this?

I have a feeling Moore's offense is going to be a bit like a college offense similar to what he ran at Boise State. If that ends up being true there won't be a need for a FB.

The bigger problem is that fullbacks barely exist in the college game anymore. By the way, how the Patriots found Devlin was nuts... and involved Jason Garrett's dad!
  • It’s simple, really: An engineering student from Brown is discovered by Jason Garrett’s dad, plays one game as a defensive end in Arena football, pretends to be a fullback to win a job with the UFL’s Florida Tuskers, earns a practice squad spot on the Bengals, is cut, takes a last shot with New England, is cut for Tim Tebow, then re-signed, and now is a Pro Bowler about to play in his third Super Bowl

Chandler Cox would of been a more traditional FB type but he can catch the ball as well. Of course Miami drafted him as Coach Flores wants to mimic Bill-B and have a traditional styled FB for a power run game at times.

Wisconsin still pumps out some fullbacks. Latest was Alec Ingold who may win out the FB spot with the Raiders, over Keith Smith. Derek Watt came from there too.

I would love to have Keith Smith back because of his physicality. Plus he demonstrated here that he could do some running and pass catching. Olowele is supposed to be a bit better than Smith in that area, both players also contribute heavily on special teams as well.
and I believe we just resigned olowele to a new 2 year contract . And there's no current competition in camp to challenge him so it looked like he's a keeper at this point.

To be determined about Moore and fb usage, but based off last year J-O barely got the ball in his hands and unfortunately everyone remembers that drop vs the Colts.
If Moore only wants to use the FB as a blocker, well, he's not that good at blocking.

He's more of a big RB than a true FB

They tried to do that with the TE's. It did not work.
The FB works, as you need to look at everything he does, not just a few plays where you think he did not do well.

We shouldn't waste a roster spot on any FB

Your running game is worse when you invite extra men into the box

What else does he do? Are you talking about special teams?

this team at least dropped one useless position, time to lose a few more.

We kind of have to since we only keeping 3 TEs

But yea, I wouldnt keep a FB and keep 7 receivers

Because Garrett and his style of football is stuck in 1992.

That, and he is a very good receiver coming out of the backfield, and has elusive speed speed and moves for a FB.
Linehan did not use him right so maybe Moore will. I think when Garrett called the plays, he used the FB more than many think.

but they resigned him to pretty expensive contract., hes staying..it was poor move for sure

I think they are committed to keeping the fullback, especially since we traded for him and locked him up on a 3 year deal.

I think both JG and the Jones boys are doing their best to stubbornly try and replicate the formula used to build the Cowboys back in the 90s and a fullback was essential in that system.

At TC, I saw some two RB sets and I didn't see a FB.
