JJ should send a clip of scene in the movie Outlaw Josey Wales when Eastwood tells the bounty hunter "the man got to know his worth." And Dak you are not worth 40 million a year.

Here's my fear.

This gives Dallas the incentive to let the Zeke thing drag on so Dak can show his "true value" in an offense without Zeke to the world.

That doesn't bode well for a good start.
Rather ruin this season than the next 8 seasons being stuck with Dak at 40 mil per season

Perception is reality...

It's really not though - not in this kind of situation. That applies if a rumor does as much harm as the truth, but in this case the actual truth matters, and people perceiving Dak is screwing up the negotiation by insisting on $40MM doesn't make it so.

Man, I am glad you aint a Cowboy Fan. Let me see, how can I put this.......?

No, that's wrong.

What part? If your franchise QB is making less than a guy most pundits view in the 13-16 range, then your guy has a team friendly deal

Let Dak play out his contract and franchise him

The Cowboys have misplayed their hand to this point just about as bad as you can. At this point I think your answer is right, but it CAN NOT stop there. In the 2-3 years left you HAVE to stockpile picks to try and get you in position to draft the next guy. We should have started by trading our 2019 2nd rounder for a higher pick in 2020. Maybe Dak is the guy for the next 10 years, but they are doing this fanbase some kind of disservice by having zero contingency plan whatsoever.

When QBs were making 20, anything below 15 was a good deal. And in a world where Dak wants 40, 32 ain’t half bad.

The entire NFL should be watching the Cowboys and what they do with Dak. We all know he's nowhere near a $40 million dollar quarterback. But if the Cowboys even pay him something close to that, a lot of more accomplished QB's are going to ask for raises.

You are anticipating Dak getting an 8 year, fully guaranteed contract extension?

This forum might collapse if next week Dak signs a 10 year 230 million dollar deal

I completely understand any athlete trying to get the most money possible but so many issues with this.

One, he's not an elite QB. He has certain value as THE quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and with that comes added marketing value for his personal brand. Two, I don't see other NFL teams valuing him as high as we do. It's another situation where the Jones clan is negotiating against themselves. Three, a deal this large is going to cripple this team. Dak may get his money but the caliber of talent around him, especially on defense, is going to deteriorate.

In five years he'll be asking for $70 million annually. Especially if he makes a couple Pro Bowls as an alternate.

In five years, this kid will be the best QB in the NFL, I'm guessing and he will probably have a championship. He might be worth it but he won't be asking for a number that his talents won't support. But again, he gives you 5 years of cap relief.

This is true

If Dak signs in the next few days for 30 million per year , Slater was Paid a million in cash by JJ...

Dak enjoys being loved by Cowboys fans. This will hurt him a lot... This could be a genius move by the Jones boys.

Honestly, if Dak thinks he's this good, the Cowboys should offer him $25 million annually.

Then let him earn an additional $15 million per season via incentives- 30 or more combined TD's passing and rushing, 10-plus wins per season, etc..

It protects the Cowboys, and if Dak meets those milestones, he'll have earned it. To me it's a win-win.

I guess you watch a lot of Cowboys football? I only ask because I've seen nothing from Dak that makes me believe that he is our "Franchise QB". What is it that you have seen that suggest this? Don't try to tell me about my team. I won't try to tell you about yours.
