Neither makes sense to me.

So how do you rank these?
Let Zeke walk
Lawrence and Zeke signed for $35
Lawrence and Clowney signed for $40

Also for everyone to know. Clowney can not negotiate a new contract until after the season. So we woulsn't need to extend him upon trading for him.

Well if you trade Zeke and a mid round pick for Clowney, you are going to have to resign him most likely. So when you sign him isn't really important as in a year or two, you'd have two DEs making $20MM a year. This also doesn't take into account the fact Clowney might have a knee problem and a "motor" problem.

I'd rather just tag Zeke for a year or two and then let him walk. I have no interest in the other two scenarios.

Yeah I have zero interest in having high priced, fully guaranteed Zeke for the next four years.

Worst comes to worst you let Clowney walk and get that mid round pick back and don't have to pay out the largest RB contract

Houston would take that in a heart beat. Clowny is LAZY LAZY LAZY.

I believe it is due to the salary cap hit and the position he plays.

Yes, probably both of those as well. But Im sure if he was an emmitt Smith type citizen and leader that most would have no issues.

Not so sure about that Roy. No one objected to Michael Irvin getting paid and Zeke is nowhere near Michael in off the field activities! Most of the 90's clubs were far worse off the field than Zeke and they got paid by Jerry.

I'm sure the team will attempt to use off field things as leverage with Zeke and in the media but it all will come down to the cap and his position IMO.

Zeke and a mid round pick for Clowney. Who says no?

Zeke for Clowney straight up. We shouldn't have to throw in a pick. It's a good fit for both sides, makes too much sense. But these trades rarely happen in the NFL.
