Most teams have 2 kickers in camp.
  • That means up to 31 kickers that will get cut.
  • Those are likely the 31 best kickers.
  • If a kicker is available right now, there is likely an issue with that player.

The primary available kicker right now:
Matt Bryant
Age 44
Missed 3 games with a hamstring injury in 2018.
Has not kicked off since 2008.
Was 20 of 21 in 2018 (good percentage but most kickers have about 2x that number of attempts).
Likely wants more than league minimum (He made 3.5M in 2018).

Maher's 2018 season is probably a better indicator than the preseason or practice.
- All but 2 of his missed FGs last season were in open air stadiums.
- He only missed 6 total plus 1 that was blocked.
- The 52 yard attempt in this preseason game was open air stadium and windy.
- He has an issue with kicking from the right hash mark. The kick last night was on the right hash mark.
So what your saying is cut him.

No, he only has 90K guaranteed.

They like him as a leader for the young RBs.
- He has great knowledge of the type of running scheme the Cowboys use.

I'm not a big fan of using a roster spot for a veteran mentor to young players but without Zeke it's highly likely they retain a veteran.
I will do it for 80k. Lol. Thanks for the info..

There better be a kicker in camp today. Seriously .. Maher will cost us games. We play a lot of close ones.
Tomorrow’s an off day for the players so I think you’ll hear about some kickers trying out. Chicago just cut a guy they may take a look at.

You forgot a big one...Maher. He must go. Dallas would be stupid to cut Hyder. He is a solid vet. I will add one more...Frazier. He can’t play S in the NFL. Zero cover skills.
I don't understand the Maher must go complaints. I get that is not the greatest kicker in the NFL but he certainly is not the worse. Don't get me wrong I will take an "true" upgrade at any position to include kicker. I just don't see kicker as a major concern at this time.

Devin Smith
Justin Phillips
Gifford
Cedrick Wilson
Olumba
Joe Jackson
Hyder

All these guys are making my roster with the exception of Gifford. I like Phillips over him.

He also has a huge leg for kickoffs, that isn't a huge thing but its still a factor in his favor.

Yeah he can kick the football into the end zone. Pretty much any NFL kicker can do that.

I like all those guys as well. Gifford would go to IR if I couldn’t get him to the 53. I love the thought of him and Phillips fighting it out next year for the 3rd LBer spot with the other one providing nice depth. I’ve seen much more out of those two than Covington.

Cut Maher and let Heath handle PK.

what was thought to be hard at the start of the PS has turned pretty easy as the games have shown who’s a player and who’s PS material.

Guys who have cut themselves:
White
JV Johnson
Weber
Hyatt

Guys who have made it tough for back end of roster:
Devin Smith
Justin Phillips
Gifford
Cedrick Wilson
Olumba
Joe Jackson
Hyder

Give it 2 more games and assuming most stay healthy that 53 will pretty much write itself.

I know the only 2 NFL backs on the team are Zeke and Pollard. With Olawale as the FB. They may keep Morris if Zeke doesn’t report but Weber is like Scarbrough last year. Nice flashy name given pedigree but not a factor.

If there’s a 3rd QB go find it from another team.

LBs will be interesting because if they only keep 6 a good player is going to be let go like maybe March Lillard.

DBs still not enough depth back behind the starters. Does Iloka know he’s allowed to be in on plays? I’ve seen him out there but he’s done nothing.
Not listed, I was impressed with that wide body take 2-3 guys Covington..we actually have some nice tackle rotations there, IMO best weve had in years..not one great one like Donald but Tackle By Committee pretty nice..isnt that the game plan of RM anyway?

Morris went down as soon as he was touched. I was very surprised. He is playing like he already made the team. Wonder if his money is fully guaranteed..

Or he didn't care cause it's preseason and wants to save himself for the regular season.

Personally I think Morris is gone, I would let go of him. I have seen enough to this point to say he cannot find an open hole and his vision sucks..

As for qb, I would be looking for a #2 qb not a #3 qb. White should of been gone yesterday. Cooper played better than white but not much. It is clear that if he had to relieve Dak we would have very little chance to play decent let alone win.

Have to find a way to keep Lillard. He plays hard

Well you have to cut a player before you can put them on the practice squad. So I don't know if some of these posters cuts are about putting players on the practice squad or off the team completely. I guess someone needs to make a thread entitled "Who's on Your Practice Squad?"
