Patrick Watkins
Watkins was actually an OK bottom of the roster player that would have been OK as a backup that could get them though a game or two here and there if a starter was injured; however, he was forced into starting 9 games as a rookie which was obviously not a good move for a rookie 5th round pick.
He originally played FS with 9 starts his rookie season.
- They signed Ken Hamlin in Watkin's 2nd season and played him at FS.
- They moved Watkins to SS, but Roy Williams was the starter there for 2 more seasons.
- Campo became the DB coach in Watkins' 3rd year.
- I still have vivid memories of from back then of:
- Terence Newman pointing his finger at Watkins and looking at the coaches after a busted play.
- Terence Newman shoving Dave Campo during a heated argument.
He lasted 5 years in the NFL and lead the Cowboys in special teams tackles some of those years, IIRC.
He was cut by the Cowboys and Chargers due to injury issues. Neck, knee, knee.
Looking it up it appears he sat out of football for a year and then played 5 years in the Canadian Football League. It appears he played
CB up there.
