Yes, your point is true. But the previous poster presented an impossible scenario where Zeke was on the open market. Even with the years left on his deal, if he refuses to play then you can only give him what he wants or trade him.
Or let him sit.

This thing isn’t getting done and I never really thought it would. Zeke is not the kind of person who compromises. You either give him what he wants or he is disrespected. They need to pull the offer and make him available for trade. Use his money to keep Jones and/or Collins and just go get another RB to pair with Pollard in next year’s draft. In the meanwhile, pick up a veteran after cuts or a player for player trade. I’m totally ready to be done with him for good.

Why I was always against drafting him. Way too high for a RB and not the kind of personality I want in my locker room.

It would only take 15m a year to be highest paid. 5y/75m? 100% he gets that on the open market. Probably more due to the bidding war. Leveon Bell hasn’t played in a year, is 3 years older than Zeke, has a major injury history, has never been close to leading the league in rushing, and still got over 13.

The Seahawks paid Marshawn Lynch 12 million a year, 5 years ago. Now they could get a better, 24 yr old Marshawn for only 15? Not close to the inflation of QB, DT, DE contracts in that span. They’re built on a heavy run game maybe even more than you. Even though they have 2 good young RBs, I bet they’d jump on that.

What would the packers be with Zeke? SUBSTANITALLY more dangerous. How about the Colts? The Vikings? The Chiefs even.

Make no mistake, Jerry’s leverage is 2 years left on Zeke’s rookie deal, not what he’s asking for. Because what Jerry’s offering is not what he’s worth... he deserves to set the market based on his talent, his play, and his lack of injuries.

The problem with this scenario, is that none of those teams know what Zeke is asking for. Is it 15 per? 16? How much is guaranteed? How many years? What other incentives does he want written in? Etc. In my opinion, no one is going to get involved in this mess right now as it sits. Maybe a team does after some facts come out about the current offer and Zeke's demands.
At this point, if I was Jerry, I would let him sit and see what I have in Pollard and the RBC approach. I would also tell my son not to run his mouth to the media anymore until he is the one signing the checks. Jerry makes enough dumb comments without having help from junior.

Purposely damage the Dallas Cowboys just to spite a player? That’s your plan?

I think this team is talented enough with the return of Frederick to weather losing Zeke. Pollard and Morris or a final cut RB would probably be enough to have a strong rushing attack. Especially if Moore lets Dak take off more this year.

I was reading yesterday that Jerry could totally ruin Zeke’s career and Zeke would never see a NFL football field again . At this point Jerry should not make anymore contact with his agent and I would start making plans without him. It is time to stand up against greed. I had rather tank the season than see Jerry give in to Zeke.

But if you’re planning on having Zeke just sit, why not trade him for assets that will help you compete? That’s what I mean by damaging your team.

I start kicking the tires on Melvin Gordon. See what he wants for maybe a 1 year prove it deal. If the chargers will take a #2 round pick. Let Elliot sit for the year and see what happens, at the end of season see if we can get our pick back in a trade for Elliot.

Likely no one else offers him what he wants. He and his agent know the jig is up, especially if we picked up Gordon and he is running good.

Elliot goes to be someone else’s problem and gets less money than we offered. Lol. We get our pick back.

And if Gordon works out well for us then get him on a 3 year deal for less or the same we offered Elliot. If he don’t take that then bye. I will draft another.

If this is true, and that's a big if, if I were the Cowboys I pull my offer immediately and start exploring trade options.

Yeah I agree 100% with trading Zeke for picks or possibly another DE. Letting him stew on his couch is counter productive.

If Zeke is worth a 1 and a player, you’d be okay with Jerry not taking that and doing everything he can to build a title contender just to hurt Zeke?

Let's hope this turns into a Paxton Lynch scenario part 2. Jerry tries really hard to make a crippling move and is saved by good fortune or the lunacy of others. Let another back, or collection of backs, run for 4.5 yards per carry behind the line. See how delightful it is to pay peanuts to that position for a few years while dumping your resources into higher value spots like the lines and the secondary, then take a big belt of scotch as you thank your lucky stars that you didn't sign a massive extension.

If you make him available for trade, you allow teams to talk to his agent. Basically you negotiate the trade compensation which is contingent on them being able to reach an agreement on a new contract. When both are done, the deal is made.

I have no idea if this rumor is true but Clay Travis is a real journalist with his own Fox show, etc.

He’s not some dude tweeting from his basement.
https://law.vanderbilt.edu/news/clay-travis-04-playing-to-his-strengths/

Travis may be tweeting correct information. Travis is a history major, lawyer, author, columnist and sports talk show host.

Travis is not a journalist. Travis can call himself a journalist. Others may label him a journalist. However, simply writing and publishing/reporting information does not make anyone a journalist.
