Dallas might need 2 new starting DTs next year

This is where those big contracts become problematic when team isn't nailing the draft and needs to address a position in FA. Last two games (Giants & Rams) the starting DTs have gotten run off the field. In Rams game, Dallas allowed 5.7 avg yards per rushing attempt for total of 273 rushing yards. Against Giants, Dallas allowed 8.9 avg yards per rushing attempt for total of 151 rushing yards.

Trysten Hill was drafted in 2nd round to address this glaring weakness on DL. He was inactive for week 1. If he is inactive for week 2 its unreasonable to expect solid production from him this rookie year. This leaves Dallas with what I consider a semi-major problem - they have 2 back up DT playing as starters (Woods & Collins). Collins is in contract year and highly unlikely to get resigned. Its also time Dallas come to conclusion that Antwaun Woods is a feel good story but not starter.

How to fix this:

1) Move Tyrone Crawford inside permanently. This likely means increase in injury potential so not long term fix but might help Dallas get thru this season.

2) Trade Taco, Hyder & draft pick for DT who can rotate and is better than Joe Jackson inside.

3) Sign DT who has question marks on another teams practice squad. This is how they got David Irving.

Those big contracts have absolutely nothing to do with what we have at DT. This team has neglected to address DT numerous times. The best they have been willing to do is this past year with Trystan Hill in the 2nd round.

Collins is a NFL starter in this league. Woods may be a backup. DT is about exactly how Safety is in this league. Most teams have average starters at those spots.....but there are a few teams with game changers back there. You gotta find them. I don't think the Cowboys have spent the proper resources in shoring that up and its why they sit here with what they have.

They should have made a play for McCoy when he was cut by Tampa.

For all the pub they get from fans about their drafting and player acquisition skills, IMO, they continue to come up short (or wrongly skimp) at DT.
Gerald McCoy......I mean is it better than what we have? Sure. But to me that's not addressing the position the way it needs to be. He's a veteran who's best years are behind him. In a make or break year as this team likes to say that's not how I address that position. Now Malik Jackson is a guy I can understand looking at. But I guess he ended up getting hurt anyway for the season..........

Still wondering if Woods is still not 100% with the shoulder recovery...

I was in complete shock that we didn't.

Crawford won't be a Cowboy next year, IMO. He won't be worth his $8mil 2020 contract. Yes I am concerned about rush defense, but I think this *might* get sorted out. We sure weren't a bad run defense for most of 2018.

You have literally no clue what you're talking about.

I wouldn't go that far. DT is pretty obviously the weakest position in Dallas and it sure looks like Hill isn't going to be an immediate fix. Maybe you disagree with his suggestions but its not like he wrote "Dallas has the worst WR corps in the NFL". Now that would justify a "you have no clue what you are talking about" response.

Outside of DLaw and maybe Collins Cowboys haven't done well drafting DL in general IMO. I fully expect to see DL and DB (FA losses) heavy drafts in the near future.

I believe we are undermanned at DT.

Don't blame me, I wanted Wilkins last year but he didn't come out til this year. We took on a good WR in a trade and didn't have the draft capital to get any of the great Clemson defense this year. Was hoping though.....

Not gonna panic yet with regard to our DTs. The Rams game last year was awful but other than that they were good. The Giants have Hernandez and Zeitler as OGs and they are very good, add in a top talent at RB running behind them and it is a tough job.

Yeah you're reading my mind. The state of the position is a disgrace and it's got Marinelli's fingerprints all over it. Don't forget the Colts also ran all over them late in the season last year.

We will need a couple of DTs but first that coordinator has got to go. Get his voice out of the ear of Frick and Frack.
