Absolutely. I'd look at bringing in a vet like McCoy and then draft another DT high in the draft. There might be some interesting vets out there besides McCoy like a Dareus or Brockers that you could bring in here on a short term deal that wouldn't hurt your cap.

It's amazing how many people just think we've done such a swell job at DT.

DT issues fall on one man - Marinelli. He has the ear of the Jones and McClay and they have build a defensive strategy around this belief that they can go fairly cheap at DT and Marinelli will turn it into awesome sauce.

The sooner they just force Marinelli into retirement, the sooner we can turn the page on this.
Our DL is not good. IF gregory had panned out we would've been real good at DE. Our DTs are below average. Remove Collins from that mix with his inevitable foot injuries and they are outright bad in the middle. JAGs.

I am far more alarmed at his complete lack of any impact during the course of 4 PS games spent largely going up against other teams' back-ups, practice squads, and future fast-food line cooks.

Exactly. It's too soon to call him a bust but at this point, it's looking unlikely he'll have much of an impact on the 2019 season. And frankly, that's not good from your 2nd round pick. A pick that you made because it was a big need for 2019 (and passed on another big need - S - to take this guy).

Can’t have premium players at every position. They’re hoping that one of the young kids turn into a stud.

Was it the DTs or the DEs who were getting blown out by the Giants. And where were the LBs to fill the holes? I did not re-watch the game but based on what I saw during the game, I think it was the DEs who would getting pushed around, particularly Crawford and Armstrong. That hole Barkley ran through for 59 yards was the result of the DE getting pushed all the way to the inside and the OLB getting sealed to the outside. I saw that happen a few times. It could be the DEs were not playing with discipline and they were rushing to where they thought the RB was allowing themselves to get trapped inside.

Again, I didn't watch the tape of the game but I am pretty sure the biggest holes were the result of the DEs getting moved around.

I am not yet ready to dump on the DEs. Get Quinn back and maybe Gregory and let's see where we are. I think the DEs will be fine.

The DTs? That's our problem. Collins, heading into this season, was the only guy I had real faith in because he had shown flashes. But he's also been inconsistent. We need him to find that gear he had in preseason and TC where he looked really good.

I would let both of them walk. They aren't difference makers.

Strange thing is we completely shut down the Seahawks run game in the playoffs. They were to top rushing team in the league.

im wondering if it’s more an issue of play calling. We knew the Seahawks were going to run.

the Rams bragged about knowing our plays. Barkley did what he does. Breaks a big one.

Our DE's are better than our DT's. That said, none of them have been very effective that last few games. Hot Boyz gone cold. Need to turn up the heat as the games progress. I think we have some real talent out there, especially at DE, but they haven't put it all together, yet.

Both were getting hammered by the gnats OL.

McCoy the same dude who did nothing week 1 same as our guys did nothing? I didn’t say we’ve done a swell job but to dismiss Collins after one week and call him trash is bull****

The defense also overreacted and gameplanned for a lot of Gurley, both running and catching.

They were not expecting to have the Rams run it right down their throats.

This is where those big contracts become problematic when team isn't nailing the draft and needs to address a position in FA. Last two games (Giants & Rams) the starting DTs have gotten run off the field. In Rams game, Dallas allowed 5.7 avg yards per rushing attempt for total of 273 rushing yards. Against Giants, Dallas allowed 8.9 avg yards per rushing attempt for total of 151 rushing yards.

Trysten Hill was drafted in 2nd round to address this glaring weakness on DL. He was inactive for week 1. If he is inactive for week 2 its unreasonable to expect solid production from him this rookie year. This leaves Dallas with what I consider a semi-major problem - they have 2 back up DT playing as starters (Woods & Collins). Collins is in contract year and highly unlikely to get resigned. Its also time Dallas come to conclusion that Antwaun Woods is a feel good story but not starter.

How to fix this:

1) Move Tyrone Crawford inside permanently. This likely means increase in injury potential so not long term fix but might help Dallas get thru this season.

2) Trade Taco, Hyder & draft pick for DT who can rotate and is better than Joe Jackson inside.

3) Sign DT who has question marks on another teams practice squad. This is how they got David Irving.
Oh but we raved about Collins during the preseason, and Tony Pollard too.

I still believe the biggest problem with the defensive line, most notably the interior run d, is the alignment. Marinelli constantly has them playing wide to help them get up field easier. The problem is, everyone and their granny knows this so teams easily exploit it in the running and passing game. Even when they stunt or shift they do it from this wide alignment that makes them extra susceptible to pulling linemen.

Honestly, he's gotta go. He like Linehan on the defensive side.

I'll give you $100,000 if you can find anywhere in this thread that I called Collins "trash" or anything similar to that.

In fact, I said pretty much the exact opposite when I said this right up above:

Don't waste my time claiming things I never actually said.

That was aimed at people in this thread trashing him and longing for other guys who did nothing week 1 as well. If it didn’t apply to you don’t worry about it
