Talent at any position diminishes need for talent at other positions. Nature of the game. The argument is how much.

I know, many people disagree w/ me about S over CB. However, at the end of the day, a CB covers one guy. A S is responsible for much, much more. If by "good" you mean competent, I agree w/ you!!!!!!!!!!

Revis covers one guy. Reed makes it extremely hard to throw deep. It's really S by a landslide.
I think the key is what you said, talent at any position diminishes need for talent in other positions....and what's the right combo of talent to get you there..... I think if we are arguing about safety play mostly then we are good to great in other areas (everyone always wants the highest level, that goes without saying). but for years our CB really sucked.

I didn't say I am happy. I said, people either want pro-bowl level based on his pay if he is not performing at that level. he sucks. there is no in between in the evaluation.

is he playing up to his contract? I don't think so. does he suck? I don't think so. he is somewhere in between.

How did he look to you on Sunday? I'll leave it up to you to give your own assessment of his performance.

A lot goes into run yards given up. It's not always about the DTs. Sometimes the run defense is hurt by DEs taking themselves out of the play by rushing upfield before they read run. Sometimes it's the Backers over pursuing, or reading late & getting blocked. Then, there are DB ole's instead of wrap tackling. Everyone has to do their job, just like the offense.

Too lazy? Move along.
the problem with stat generation.

fletcher Cox was very average... as one of the highest paid DTs he only had 2 tackles
OMG, Geno Atkins another highly paid DT... only two assists..... he was below average
Marcell Darreus another highly paid DT had 0 tackles...man did he suck.

you get my point.....

again, not saying he is great, but stats don't always tell the whole story....

100% agree. Players can have lackluster "stats" but have a profound impact on the game and the opposing team's gameplan.

The good: Has to be the Cowboys passing game led by Dak, supported by a dominant pass protection and with receivers open everywhere.

The bad: Too many penalties, and we got away with 2-3 calls that had the Giants coach steaming.

The ugly: Run defense. It was simply bad all game, we barely got a stop, not just the one big play either. Luckily they kept putting the ball in Eli’s hands.

I think you guys are way too hard on Jeff Heath. He is a good player with a nose for the ball. He’s not exceptional. But not every player on your roster is going to be.

We never looked to obliterate teams in the Jimmy Johnson era, we’d have games where Aikman would only pass 5 or 6 times, or less, in the 2nd half as we were so far ahead.
Oh hell, I remember scoring TDs on the 1st 2 drives mostly passing and him go ultraconservative running the ball and we ended up losing to Commanders 17 to 14 in the last minutes of the game!

And our S's have sucked even worse.

The combo that mostly works to get teams to the super bowl is decent CB's and great S's.

Your comment I replied to in the first place.

All thanks to Marinelli and his stubbornness to convince Jerry and the front office to draft a twinkle-toed dancing bear 3 tech DT who gets easily pushed back or aside, instead of a big ol' double team taking hole plugger at 1 tech DT.

Note in the two different articles you posted, not once did either say the bolded above.

A fist pump, maybe. But NOTHING in those articles said he convinced a blessed soul. Which was thew point I was driving at.

He may have, or not. But just because you say so doesn't make it cast in stone accurate.

Further, name the hole plugging 1 tech they passed on for this guy.

Last point. Didn't Sapp play on the Bucs when they won the SB? Marinelli was on that coaching staff. One would think he understands the defensive line.

Your stubborness is blinding you. You know the answers but would rather act ignorant. Go play your games with someone else.

Either way, my point about the DT's being a major part of our unproductive run D against the Giants is spot on.
No I did a coaches film review of all snaps played by the Cowboys DTs against the Giants in game 1 of 2019 and they were not a problem.
